Solved Disk cleanup questions

I have a few questions about disk clean up. First I run it and check off all of the options including dump and debug files which are both listed at 662 mb. When it's done deleting the files I run it again only to find that the debug and dump files are both still at 662 mb. Is there anything I can do to delete them? My next question is about icons and thumbnails. I usually check off the thumbnail option and it clears the thumbnails as it should, but when I go back to folders that I set custom icons for they are not restored. Is there an easy way to make those thumbnails come back or should I just not delete them?

Not sure how it will be received on these forums, but have you tried CCleaner? I have gotten some disappointing results from the Windows tools like Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter, and am much more satisfied with both the performance and options of the Piriform counterparts (CCleaner and Defraggler).

I think that when you empty certain caches you may have to either do a refresh or restart explorer. I could be wrong tho, maybe one of the guys on here can get you sorted on that matter. I don't see much point in emptying something like the thumbnail cache though. Windows is just going to re-create it lol, as soon as you see those thumbnails next.

Seems we agree again MSchild. Ccleaner is highly recommended for the routine cleaning tasks. I am partial to Auslogics Defragger though for my spinners. I echo what you said about the thumbnail cache.

CCleaner is the better way to go and it does not destroy your restore points. Disk cleanup does.

Never had this issue. How does Disk Cleanup "destroy" Restore Points? Just curious?
Have been using CCleaner since it was known as Crap Cleaner, mainly for the speed and flexability.
