Disk Error Checking

So I have been having problems with my laptop lately, long start up times, hanging when in programs. I started the Error checking 2 days ago and went to sleep. I woke up and notice it at 80% and not going anywhere for a long time. I restarted the laptop and it went into the checking again where i have left it. It has been going for 23-24 hours straight and is at 78%. I slept for 8 hours last night and it went from 70-78% in that time.

So my question is. what could possibly be causing this? i have never heard of this happening before!?

Sounds like your HD is failing. go to the Mfrs website and download their diagnostic tool.

I did find what i believe is the diagnostic tool how ever, If i restart the laptop will it go back into error checking like it has previously done?

Also it is still on 78% so i am guessing something pooped out on me
