Hi guys, I have been trying to solve this for a while so I thought I would ask here.

I can no longer use USB keys or my external HDD. I always get the message that the disk is write protected. I have tried a bunch of things (dos commands, editing registry) but to no avail; my main account has full permissions. The keys/HDD work fine on other computers.

Not sure if this is related but I always had one account (Fancy - Admin) on the login screen, but after reboot, the Administrator account appeared. I've tried that Admin account but I have the same problem.

Any thoughts on how solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, merci.

Hello samuria, well that worked a treat! The weirdest thing is, I had edited the registry and did that exact same step (or so I thought ??!!) but it hadn't worked... Ah well. That reg file did the trick. Thank you!!

One more thing... is there a way to remove that admin account on the login screen? It's not a big deal but not sure why it even appeared there.

Thanks again *S*

Hi, hidden admin? well, the login screen... I used to only have myself showing, now administrator is there too. Can't print screen that screen but it is this one.

It looks like when you set up your computer, rather than using the Administrator account and changing the Administrator's profile to have your name, etc, you created a new account with admin privileges.

You can remove the original Administrator profile, but it will cause problems in the future, especially if you need to take ownership of a system file.
