Did you run Puran Boot Time scan with full Disk Check? The DIsk check will check the HD for file system errors before defragging which could have caused the anomaly. Otherwise it is something that can happen on rare occasions.
If you have worries about the HD then in addition to the Disk Check run the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to determine with certainty its condition.
Puran is superior because of the Boot Time Defrag which can move System files that would otherwise be running and untouchable during a Windows or other defrag. So if there's a System file out in right field blocking Shrink only Puran is going to move it in a defrag, although the same thing can often be achieved using Partition Wizard CD to Move/Resize Partition - Video Help. If you want to try PW CD (the most valuable tool we use here) it can also check your HD condition with Partition Wizard Partition surface test and Partition Wizard Check File System .
Hope this helps.
