Okay, folks,

I got a nice ASUS gaming notebook so it wouldn't go obsolete on me too fast. But mostly I use it for the Internet.

THis has only recently started happening; since I loaded Fallout NV on the machine.

While I am watching video online, I will get a flicker and a message saying the display drivers have stopped responding and successfully recovered, or else a memory dump and blue screen of death. SOmetimes, just a freeze.

I have reinstalled the factory imprint, and no Fallout New Vegas. Same problem. I am running WIndows 7 64 bit on the ASUS macine with an ATI video card and an INtel core I7 processor. Webroot internet security.

Can anybody tell me what is wrong?

Check in device manager under display adapters to view your current driver, what Card is your laptop using?

"Right-click Computer" > "Manage" > "DeviceManager"

Is this a bad Windows 7 update? I installed Fallout 3, but I had it on the machine before and no problems. I can't figure out if it is a virus or what. So if anybody has any help, I would really appreciate it.

Like I said, I have not had this problem except since I first loaded Fallout New Vegas on the machine. But I reformatted the hard drive and never re-loaded Fallout New Vegas.

So the only problem I can figure is a bad Windows 7 update or service pack. Is there ANY way to fix this?

Check your DirectX & PhysX aswell, did you find out what model VGA card you're using?

Hi! seth2915, welcome to 7F :)

If Fallout New Vegas (FNV) is Steam related, it would be advisable to un-install Steam also, there are many incidences where Steam causes all sorts of BSOD's. See 7 Forums Search

And, even though you may think you un-installed FNV you may have only deleted the game data see: uninstalling games in steam

To un-install Steam see Danton721's response here: How to uninstall Steam

As I said, I reinstalled the factory image, so that got rid of all of the Fallout NV stuff. Same problem, but no Steam. I do have Fallout 3 on there, but no Steam.

Smurofneves: I will check all of that info. I am at work right now...

Check in device manager under display adapters to view your current driver, what Card is your laptop using?

"Right-click Computer" > "Manage" > "DeviceManager"

Ok, the card is ATI Mobility Raedon 5870.

Driver version is 8.683.0.0

THere is an option to roll back driver and to update drivers. Should I do either?

As for DirectX & PhysX, I could find neither. Where are they located?

Also, I read this could be a software incompatibility between Adobe Flash 10 player and Windows 7. I downgraded to Flash 9, and haven't seen any freezes yet.

I was getting both the driver notice and complete freezes that would not allow me even to open the task manager.

Now could these problems be related? As I said, no more freezes so far with Flash 10 uninstall and Flash 9 reinstall. If so, has Flash 11 solved these problems?

BTW, thanks for your help!
