I've got to sort out what VM to use on this Notebook so I can install to that, I'd like to try it before the final comes out.

I have it installed on one machine and am going to put it into a VM on this machine and may put it on another machine too. Everyone needs to remember it is just a preview, basically a rough draft. Feedback is important, and hopefully Microsoft will listen this time. As a rough draft, I think it shows promise so far. I feel like most others about the cloud, I don't like that. I want my stuff on my machine. Microsoft is aiming for everything in the cloud, which does have it's merits, even though I don't like it. With everything in the cloud, it doesn't matter what machine you run, when you link the machines they will all have the same info available to you. Some things I don't mind putting in the cloud, other things just won't happen. But, the cloud is where they seem to be going with this and most everything else. The cloud has it's merits, but I just don't want it, I have my own 'cloud', thank you very much.

I agree, however, windows is for every type of user, and a majority of users who can't afford a mac and aren't technically minded will see this as a good thing, I suppose it'll make our jobs easier knowing that ID 10 T errors won't cause massive amounts of data loss

People ask me "You must have seen some of the great R&R bands, did you ever see XYZ or DEF?"

I honestly cannot remember - for the longest time I might say that I wish I had seen The Allman Bros. Band. A friend brought up the '73 Summer Jam and after I looked at the bands that played there ... I actually had seen The Allman Bros. Band.

Most likely not. I didn't even install Window 8 to even test/try it out. I didn't really like the look of it or the sound of it anyway. I'd rather stick to Windows 7 and Mac OS X.

Upgrade to it? Not hardly. I have it running in a VM (DL'd it and had it running the 1st morning it was offered) on several machines but have no intention of upgrading any of my physical machines.

I've used the new OS quite a bit now and like what I see but doubt I would run it as the main OS on any machine until after it ships and I build/buy a new machine with it on there from the get go.

Windows 10 lacks fun on VM Softwares because of poor performance. I'd rather go dual boot it with Windows 7!

One day on the Win10 preview and only a few minor issues. Quite impressive for an alpha release.

Most of the issues are Hyper-V and my lack of experience with it. MS is trying to appease the desktop users while developing software to run well on new technology - it's always a tricky task to provide backward compatibility.

Win10 is smaller and faster than it's predecessors. It is what Win8 should have been, but MS has it's release schedule - every three years.

I still have machines with Win98, WinXP, Win Vista. Since I learned about System images here on Seven Forums, I have a machine that was originally Win7 - upgraded to Win8 that can be either.

The upgrade to Win8 allows me to run native Virtual Machines using Windows Server technology Hyper-V. I'm in the process of figuring out how to load the Win7 System Image into a VM.

I will run the previews in a VM and will most likely get new hardware after Win10 is released.

Definitely ... with upgraded hardware as well, this laptop wasn't meant to do all of the things I'm doing.

I'm not experiencing poor performance on my Win 10 VM. I haven't bothered with dual booting for many years, too much of a PITA. I prefer the versatility of a VM.

The tech preview and subsequent updates - No, I'll dual boot it.

Officially released - Yes, barring any major issues cropping up

It is interesting but Build 9841 has nothing new that I need. They promised a lot more functional updates, so we'll see. My excitement does not resemble that of the Windows 7 Beta.

Pros up to now: It has a very small footprint and seems to be fast (I can't really tell because I run it virtual with only 2GB of RAM)

Cons up to now: I already stumbeled on 6 bugs (the worst is that my 150% DPI is not applied throughout the system) and the difference to 8.1 is not apparent. The start menu does not make my day. I had no problems with the 8.1 start menu. There were other things that bothered me.

haha. I am at a total of 26 bugs so far that I have found and reported. But for an alpha I do agree it takes low mem usage and is very fast and stable for the most part. Sometimes the feedback app crashes explorer on shutting down the pc or logging off.

I agree - there's not a whole lot of new stuff and we shall see what comes next.

I turned off the start menu in favor of the start screen
Taskbar properties - Start menu - Untick Use the Start menu instead of the Start screen

Side note: I solved the wireless network adapter issue I had in Hyper-V by creating a Network Bridge (properties - tick Wifi, untick Ethernet) between the physical adapter and the virtual adapter.

Trying to setup Win7 Hyper-V - playing with a System Image backup - no luck yet, I might have to bite the bullet and install fresh on the VM instead of trying to fool with the System Image.
Win7 needs a legacy network adapter and Generation 1 of Hyper-V.
The same Network Bridge works for both Hyper-V machines.

Kari seems to be on top of Hyper-V - he has some good posts on TenForums.

You could try to convert the image VHD to an iso. There are several ways proposed on the net but I do not know how well that works. Matter of trying.

I will upgrade to Windows 10 if the price is right. Less than about $40 to upgrade, then yes. More than that, probably no. Just bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1 in August 2014, coming from Windows 7. I used Windows 7 from 2009.
