I use DVD Shrink on my XP computer. I'm building a W7 64-bit (home premium) computer now.

Will DVD shrink work on W7 64-bit.

I've seen people here talk about DVD Shrink working, but not seeing a mention of it works on 64-bit or 32-bit.

I'm having trouble getting it to work. I have the 64bit version on windows 7. Shrink installs ok but when i go to open the program a box pops up and says shrink has stopped working with a couple of ways to trouble shoot. I have tried everything from all compatibilities to uninstall reinstall to run as admin and nothing works...any ideas?

I've been using DVD Shrink on the Beta, RC release as well as the RTM of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I have a Netflix account and I rip almost everything down to re-writeable DVD's when I get them from Netflix...so I use this application all of the time.

Yes DVD Shrink works great! I don't know why papahood is having issues. The best thing is that you don't need AnyDVD to rip DVDs into your hard drives. For some reason, all the other apps I used to rip a DVD into an ISO file will not allow you to do so if the DVD has some sort of copy protection on it. However, DVD Shrink, despite being really old, is able to surpass this without AnyDVD running. Weird.

You can set DVD Shrink to rip your DVD into an ISO of the exact same size.
Or you can set it to shrink your DVD and rip it so that it is small enough to be burnt onto a DVD-4.7GB. And it works with Windows 7. And it's free. This app was sent from our buddy Jesus himself.

hmm...i'm completely baffled. I've used shrink for a long time and didn't have any issues with vista or xp or anything else for that matter...but for some reason can't even get it to open in 7

if anyone has any ideas would be much appreciated

All i've done after the download is extract the app. and then install. when it asks me if i want to run it i say yes and it loads. But for some reason after the program has closed and i want to open it is when i run into issues...

Like the guys have said, mine installed fine too. But it on a W7 64-bit computer just like I did for my old XP 32-bit. Installed and works perfect.

Sorry I don't know why it would be causing problems on your computer????

Why do you have AnyDVD? DVD shrink can rip anything without the need for running AnyDVD (At least as far as I know.)

I hope you all got a good copy of DVD Shrink. One significant thing about DVD Shrink is that there are a rampant amount of fakes out there.

The latest version is 3.2.0.15. Released July 2004. Over 5 years later, and I don't know anything that can do what it does. Everything else seems to conflict with copy protection (CSS restrictions) unless you're running the latest version of AnyDVD.

You can find the legit download on Afterdawn.

DVD Shrink alone cannot backup several newer movies which has a copy protection that it doesn't understand. You said yourself, the latest version of DVD Shrink is over 5 years old now. Copy protection on DVDs has evolved since then.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Ok here's an update..i finally got it to work and i"ll explain how i did it but honestly i'm not sure which procedure actually did for me, but here it goes for anyone else having troubles..

first thing i did was uninstalled it and completely got rid of it..then rebooted..then downloaded it again but this time from a different mirrored site..I put it in compatabiltity xp service pack 2 mode and ran it as admin then installed it(which i tried all modes before so i don't think this part had anything to do with it)..... then after it installed and got to the point where it asks you if you want to run it i said no( before i usually said yes to make sure everything was ok and it would work until i closed the program)...
Now bare with me here..the very first time i loaded shrink onto 7 i did not mess with DEP..but after having issues and reading an article about adding it to Turn on DEP for all programs except the ones i select..i went ahead and did that with same bad results.
So for the heck of it i went back in and changed it back to Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only and then before opening shrink i rebooted one more time and wala..it works..

So i honestly i am not sure if it was the fact that i downloaded it from a different site or changed the data execution or the fact that i rebooted it after the install...so there you go if any of that makes any sense..but it works

I was having similar problems and after reading the above remembered that I had enabled DEP on my machine. With DEP on installation of DVD Shrink would fail at the very end but leave the program installed. However launching the app would cause the error that the program had been closed. I uninstalled, turned off DEP (except for system services), rebooted and reinstalled without any compatibility turned on for the installer. The installer then completed successfully and the app was able to launch normally.

Since DEP defaults to off by default it would explain why most people have no problem with installing and running but a few of us were experiencing difficulties.

I started a similar thread about Shrink more or less wondering about something similar not as dated to run on 7 x64. No issues with Shrink but I don't want a library of 3.5 gig vob files. Not to crazy about the iso route for media files either. My last version of Nero was 7, I hear-read v-9 is bloatware. And on xp the shrink & N-7 combo worked great.

Welcome to the forum dfreezy; you certainly brought this thread back from the - half dead.
I would invite you to add more info to your specs list.
I still use Shrink for a few tasks, can't seem to ween myself from it completely. Yes AnyDvD solves some problems and there's a setting so it doesn't auto start. Welcome to the land of extra steps for a new OS - I think that point needs no further explaination. Then, there's the new version of Nero that it won't work with anyway.
