DOOM3 - Windows 7

Yeah, some good points there. I play Battlefield 2 alot and that has many keys for the vehicles etc. I used to play the original Doom alot back in 1994 and that was great, but now I can't play if I can't look up and down and aim lol.

I'm also hate the standard WASD key configuration, preferring the cursor keys and the surrounding keys for the other functions. But like you say, that's personal preferrence.

I do like the console joypads for some games though, such as racing and platformers. Need For Speed for example is a nightmare on a keyboard lol. A good joypad with touch sensitive shoulder buttons is what I like for acceleration and brakes and the like.

How to make doom 3 work in windows 7

Ok so after 4 or 5 days of trying to get doom 3 working properly in windows 7 I stumbled acrossed this fix by accident. Whenever I run a program that is not compatible with windows 7's Aero theme it automatically changes my theme to windows 7 Basic. And after it changed my theme to windows 7 Basic because I tried to run some older dvd program I was still messing around trying to get Doom 3 to work. I ran Doom 3 while windows was still in Windows 7 Basic Theme mode and BAM!!!! It works perfectly! I tested it further and found that it only works if I'm in Windows 7 Basic Theme mode.

I hope this works for everyone else. To change to windows 7 Basic Theme mode go to control panel under where it says Appearance and Personalization click on "change the theme." Near the bottome it should say "basic and high contrast themes" click on Windows 7 Basic.

Hope this helps everyone!!!

got a new system coming soon it will have win7 64 bit so il post back on my d3 results from it but if anyone knows what might be causing my lag? i know its not my connect worked fine before on vista?

Hmm, just loaded this also.
Patched to 1.3.1, and game ran, which it would not before.
I cant appear to get it to remember my video settings ??
I set for the highest, which is 1600 x 1200, and it reports it will apply on next restart. But, when loading again it still comes up as 600 x 480.
Anybody else had this ??

best for you to use a autoexec.cfg are you useing a widescreen monitor? well easiest way to test this is load game open console type-

r_customheight "1200"
r_customwidth "1600"

you can change these if you want!

now check the aspectratio same thing open console and type-

r_aspectRatio "0"

( // (0= 4:3) ,(1=16:9) ,(2=16:10) use the one that fits best with your monitor

and afterwards type vid_restart in console press enter doom will reload then check settings hope this helps!

Ok, sorted this late last night.
If you go through the screen display options, increasing one step at a time, then save and re-start, it remembers it.
Bit of a pain, but going up one step at a time resolved it.

You're doing it the hard way. ;) Just right-click on the Doom 3 icon, click properties, then under "Compatibility" tab, make sure "Disable Desktop composition" is checked. Then, anytime you launch Doom 3, it will turn off the Aero theme and run Windows in a basic theme.

I loaded up Doom 3 and all is installed propperly, but I keep getting the message to reinstall disk 1 and restart? How can I fix this.

You need to install the 1.3.1 patch. You can get it from id's official site, here.

To everyone else, there is pack that updates the main menu screen to look more modern-ish. This will allow you to choose a custom start map, HD resolutions (no more having to quit and restart when switching to a new res), better game / font clarity, etc.

To download the file, click here. To install, just unpack the file and put it into your Doom 3/base folder. To uninstall, just delete the pak file.
