Yeah, some good points there. I play Battlefield 2 alot and that has many keys for the vehicles etc. I used to play the original Doom alot back in 1994 and that was great, but now I can't play if I can't look up and down and aim lol.
I'm also hate the standard WASD key configuration, preferring the cursor keys and the surrounding keys for the other functions. But like you say, that's personal preferrence.
I do like the console joypads for some games though, such as racing and platformers. Need For Speed for example is a nightmare on a keyboard lol. A good joypad with touch sensitive shoulder buttons is what I like for acceleration and brakes and the like.

Just right-click on the Doom 3 icon, click properties, then under "Compatibility" tab, make sure "Disable Desktop composition" is checked. Then, anytime you launch Doom 3, it will turn off the Aero theme and run Windows in a basic theme.
