Anyone got DOOM 3 to work with windows 7? , when i load it up i get annoying out of sync waves going down the screen. Also everytime i set widescreen and restart the game it goes back to 640x. I tried autoexec.cfg and setting that to widescreen but it still starts up as a really low res!

Not the only one

It needs some sort of patch I would suppose. It needed one for vista so the same one may work. It also may be that you have the 64 bit version of windows, not sure if thats a problem.

edit:

it would seem using the windows update drivers, doom 3 works perfectly fine, but trying to use any recent drivers will break most ID (Doom/Quake, etc) or OpenGL based games.

using the nvidia stock drivers on my 9800GTX+ I had those horrible flickering lines with DOOM3 and wolfenstein on steam , unninstalled the card completely and allowed windows update to install drivers and that fixed it and all my other games :D

Yep, dont use the vista drivers as the WU ones are specific for Win7.

If you can stand running it in windowed mode modify your doom3 config located in the /base/ directory and switch off the full screen option.

This removed the flicker for me :)

oh and @previous poster with all the BUY THE GAME nonsense.

I did, and it was this bought version updated one update at a time and it still flickered.

I used this solution a week or so ago with Doom 3 and other older OpenGL-based games.
It involves using a RivaTuner tweak.
You can download RivaTuner here.

Windows 7 with opengl (CS 1.6)
This fixed the flickering lines when running OpenGL games fullscreen.

You might also try the disable desktop composition/compositing/whatever compatibility mode - I heard that Aero can hose OpenGL apps.

I have at lead 2000gb mem and processor speed is 3000mhz so cant b that.

You could try checking the nvidia control panel and setting things to performance rather than quality. Read each entries description and everytime it mentions performance, use that setting.

Welcome to the forums lisa01707,

There is also the in-game 'System' settings that allow you to 'Autodetect' visual capabilities. I've noticed that when the game first runs it doesn't quite detect correctly so can lead to some performance lag.

Thanks :)

I will try this, I also notice when I play DVD's there is a performance lag as well so couldn it be more than just the game?
