Downloading & installing updates now STUCK "creating a restore point"

I was just packing up for some lunch and I thought that I would check to see if I needed any updates on my desktop. That was about 11:30.
It is STILL creating a "restore point".
Time now 13:49
In light of my previous problem on my desktop, i.e. B.S.O.D and all the problems that ensued I definitely don't want to go down that route again.
Does anybody have any ideas, I can still get to the Forum on the desktop.
So if there is something that you want me to run or undertake I will glady do it.
Just out of interest I have used 140GB
Tony

Hi Paul
Thanks for the contribution
Panic over
I checked online and then looked what I had (because I could see it on the desktop) and decided just to go ahead and perform a "normal shutdown"
It must have done some updates because I have just checked and there is only five remaining.
Thanks anyway

sheffieldyorky,
Gotta love M$ Win7, I do!
Just out of interest I have used 140GB?

Please run these tools from my OneDrive
Click :orb: type cmd
right-click cmd choose run as admin
type
sfc /scannow
yes there is a space between the c and the /
press enter
download AutoSURT64 and place it on your desktop
When sfc /scannow completes, run AutoSURT64
When it completes, open CBS folder on desktop, remove .cab files, they are compressed CBS.logs
zip/compress the CBS folder and upload please

Bill

If you have a roll-up install by WU, quality or security, etc. it includes all the previous as it is cumulative.
Latest expansion of the cumulative KBs (they are compressed by M$) is 15,000-17,000 files, most are, as one would expect, repetitive. That in and of itself lends to issues with Win Update, downloading, software distribution folder, links, hard-links, permissions take, restore. One piece has an issue, eventually OS starts displaying problems.
