downloading mp3 files

While experimenting with itunes it seems to have taken over and established quicktime as the default downloader of mp3 files. I uninstalled it but now don't know what to substitute as the default program for downloading.

isn't there a default program with windows? I was quite happy with the way it worked before quicktime took over.

I am not sure. I never download mp3. But there are many free options on the web.

Windows Media Player perhaps? Either way, you can restore the program file associations as per your liking by going to the control panel and then "Default Programs".

What exactly do you mean by that?

A source for mp3, where you buy them for 99 cents apiece or something like that?

If so, try Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody.

If you mean a free source of mp3s, why do you need a "default program" other than an ordinary browser?

That is not a "default downloader", it simply means that your files are now associated with quicktime as the default player. You can open MP3 files with any program that supports them, and you can also change the default program to whatever you wish.

Many programs offer you the option to set themselves as "default" when you install them.
