I can, of course, not speak for your machine. But my fully developed 17.1 boots fine on 2 cores and 2GB of RAM. See here.. I just recorded that 2 minutes ago. The virtual machine folder is on an external SSD.

I did install a 32 bit version of 17.1 on my 64 gb flash drive so if nothing else I'll use it instead.

I only run them off flash drives anymore

Although, I may throw Zorin on a ssd, now that I have a few extras.

Mint on a flash drive is nice if you want to make data recovery from a defunct system. But for daily use it is more practical to have a Mint in a virtual partition. That's the first thing I start in the morning so that I can go to the web.

Yep that's basically what it's for on the flash drive recovery
I doubt I'll put anything on the laptop and just keep everything the way it is
I still have mint 64 bit on it's own ssd for my desktop that works well
Hell who knows I could probably use it in my laptop
It's 64 bit capable :/
