Dual boot XP and Win7. No network connections Win 7??

I have been having a conflict with Win7 and nVidia 9600gt. Latest firmware. Problem possibly worsened by just-installed Synology DS209 NAS.

Win7 boots, then black screen, right after weird colors on Win7 Welcome screen. Computer seems to be running ok, but no display. Turn off power supply and reboot.

In going back and forth removing nVidia display drivers, I have somehow lost network connectivity with Win7 in regular or Safe mode (with networking). Can't reach internet or even my home network.

I still have network connectivity with WinXP (I am using that boot on the same machine, right now), so this must not be a hardware issue. I am guessing software, maybe lost or corrupted drivers? There seems to be some connection with the nVidia and nForce Network drivers?

I did re-install nVidia drivers, hoping to get back network connectivity, but when I went into regular Win7, got black screen again. Works ok in Safe mode, but no network there, now, either.

Other computers on my home network are connecting to network and internet.

Anyhow, I am at a loss to fix this and welcome any suggestions.

Unlike previous Windows, the troubleshooters in Win7 actually work. Try rightclicking on connection in SysTray and running Troubleshooter.

If this fails, reinstall wireless Network Adapter by uninstalling and restarting.

Have you checked optional Windows Updates for newer drivers?

I will try this and get back with results. The Troubleshooter could not find the problem. Will uninstall and reinstall Network Adapters.

Uncertain how I can access optional Windows Updates for Win7 since I have to access the internet through XP? Will I be able to access and DL Win7 updates?

Somehow found a solution.

The nVidia drivers were causing my Win 7 system to crash the display. So I removed EVERYTHING that had nVidia's name on it. Unfortunately the nForce network drivers also.

The 9600GT has DVI/HDMI output. The card came with a VGA adapter so I could use my old VGA cable, which I did. Somehow in the updates (Win7 and nVidia) the VGA quit working. I found this out when I replaced the VGA cable and connected directly into the card through the DVI output and into my monitor.

The solution? Trash the VGA cable and go DVI/HDMI!

All is well.
