Dungeon Siege on Windows 7

I've looked into the threads on the Compatibility page, but it didn't really go into detail on how to make Dungeon Siege work on Windows 7. My problem is that the game will start up and run, but the graphics are a bit screwy when wanting to play/make characters. It does this weird "flash and lag" stuff with the mouse/graphics. Has anyone else encountered this?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? I've been wanting to play this game, and no one's really answered this yet.

some older game having compatibility issue with windows 7,other solution would be to install XP mode on your windows seven. That is if you willing to do it for that game

I'm not wanting to install a virtual program on my computer. I don't like using them and it takes up my hard drive space. I also do not think updating my graphics card drivers is going to make any difference to Dungeon Siege which is more than 5 years old, and probably doesn't get any updates. The issue has something to do with compatibility with Windows 7. I had no problems with this game and Windows XP.

maybe other members might have more knowledge than I am to help. I don't see other way. unless the game developer provide a patch for windows seven regarding this compatibility issue :)

Pfft, like that will happen with a 10 year old game. Gas Powered Games only updated Dungeon Siege ONCE after it was released. I'm wanting to make this game work, but the "compatibility" list for games doesn't give any details on how to make it work, and are vague as hell.

I came across something mate and I hope it will help you :)

1. Make sure you install DirectX 9.0c since Windows 7 doesn’t come with it!
2. Install the game like normal
3. Go into the directory were you installed it probably “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege”
4. Double click on DSVideoConfig.exe
5. It will probably say “Primary Display Driver – Hardware” change it to whatever video card you have. For example i would change mine to “ATI HD4850 – Hardware” DO NOT PICK THE ONE THAT SAYS “TnL”
6. you can pick whatever resolution, shadows or filtering you want and click OK
7. Now play the game!
EDIT: If you are going to play Legend of Aranna you have to go into your documents folder go into the Dungeon Siege folder open your DungeonSiege.ini file and copy the first 3 (4?) lines. Go back to documents folder and go into the Dungeon Siege LOA folder, open the DungeonSiege.ini file there and paste it over the first 3 (4?) lines there.

feel free to ask

Okay, this makes it play, minus that the video's a little weird, but oh well. I think the issue might be that I have DirectX11 installed on my system (it was already installed on it when I picked up the machine). But at least I'm able to play. Thanks.

Richard, the other problem is the one I managed to resolve first (the flickering, and the psychedelic static) - the fix is simple, it's the standard compatibility troubleshoot.

Find your Dungeon Siege executable file, right-click it, and click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab.

Click the checkbox to enable compatibility mode, and choose Windows XP SP2 from the drop-down. This worked for me, though you may need to choose a different level of SP.

@kucing13: Thanks, your info made the game playable for me, as even after doing the compat thing, it had been unplayable until I applied your steps - thanks!
