It is possible if Windows 7's drivers don't support that model. Highly doubtful as they made the drivers situation much much better than with Vista. However, look around for product compatibility with Windows 7. It IS possible.

I can't see why it wouldn't be compatible. Maybe that person bought the wrong kind for their set up.

Interface
Like the internal hard drives optical drives also use either the SATA or parallel ATA (also known as IDE) to connect to the computer motherboard with the help of the corresponding cable type. The interface and cable type (IDE or SATA) is determined by your optical drive, but make sure both the motherboard and optical drive have matching interfaces.

DVD incompatability- believe it!

I refused to believe it too. I have two different: a Nec Nd 3550a and a Samsung that came out of a dell. Both IDE.They both ran just fine. Vista wouldn't run the Nec. Installing 7 the samsung just would not see the exe file half the time. When it did; The installation stopped @ 'expanding files'; with error 0x80070570. Even booting from disk it asked for drivers I didn't have. I found many solutions online; none of which worked. Last night I went to Best Buy and bought a HP 1260-sata interface DVD unit. ( comes with Nero 8 essential and drivers on same disk) Came home, stuck it in and about an hour later Win7-64 bit Professional was installed. Chose clean install. No hitches. The faster speed od new player is very noticable. Hope this helps.:geek:

My DVD writer wouldn't play a number of DVD movies until I flashed it's firmware with the latest version and no issues since.
