I've got a couple of films I want to put on DVD. Trouble is they're too long for regular DVD-R disks. Instead I have to get 8GB disks to fit them on. My problem is no matter how much I search all I can find are DVD+R DL disks. Nope, nowhere I look seems to stock DVD-R DL disks. Any reason for this?

Can't help you with the discs, there are many programs that can convert/compress the video file so you can fit them on smaller discs.

Search the internet for giveaways which are quite frequent.

perhaps also get a better dvd burner that can burn either dvd-r dl & dvd+r dl discs
older dual layered dvd burners had trouble making either DL discs but dvd burners made in 2010 & later are good

It can burn and play both, but my Blu-ray player for my TV can only play DVD-R and DVD-RW.

If you're optical drive was manufactured after 2004, in all likelihood, you can use the +R DL discs. Earlier drives wouldn't recognize them, only -R DL.

I recently ran out of DL disks and went shopping on line for a particular brand....that being, "Verbatim".
But all I could find On-Line was the +R variety. So that's what I bought.

Because of the nasty little habit of DVD drives having their Lasers drift off Frequency, with age, I change my own DVD drive once a year. I recently had to change a drive after only six months of service. I could burn a disk and verify it, No problem, but put that same disk in someone elses drive and it would error out.

I've also had that same problem with RW disks, so I just won't use them anymore. I found them to only be reliable on the drive that wrote them.

A cheaper and more reliable media for storing large files, like ISO's, is the USB Flash Drive. As the need for the stored data changes, the Flash Drive can be RE-Formatted just like a Floppy Disk, and used again.

Most currently available PC's today, have no trouble reading or booting off of a 64 to 128 GB Flash Drive and the prices have come down to where they are much more affordable.

Cheers Mates!

I was in an Office Max last weekend and they were selling 64 GB flash drives for $8.99 to clear them out. I gobbled one of them up even though I don't have an immediate use for it. Reformatted it from Fat32 to NTFS.

OK, my pick is:

I do love the Printable Disks, because I can put one in my Epson Printer and print a beautiful COLOR label right on the disk.

Is it just me, and maybe my old age, or are all the DL disks being offered +R. ???
For me, that's just fine.

I'm kind of amazed though, at the tremendous difference in price being charged by different suppliers.

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

I love my optical media. The bit integrity is a lot better than flash or mechanical based storage. I have a Pioneer Blu-ray burner and it also burns M-Disc. So I have copies of my important stuff on DVD/RW, and Blu-ray. Then I burned all of Wikipedia to M-Disc along with the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, the Bible and some other stuff. Over the years I'll make new disks and it's my request to have the disk placed in my coffin since I believe one day my grave my be an archeological find.

I've had an LG DVD drive for a long time now, and it has "M Disk" embossed on the front of the drawer, and I never knew what that meant. Now, I know. Thank You!

I just don't think I'm ready to put out the money for 'MDisks' though. I don't need any media that will last for more than the short time I have left on this world. Maybe 10+ years. (only if I'm lucky)

I finally relented and bought some DVD/DL disks, because there were things, like ISO's that just wouldn't fit on a normal DVD.

When DVD's first came out, they were DANGED expensive! Now they are more or less Dirt Cheap.

I buy my Verbatim disks from Amazon, and have them here in two days.
I love it, when the Big Brown Truck comes to my house.

Cheers Mate!

DL Disc reputable/repeatable source

Have bought in the past, and again about a month ago, DL discs from shop4tech.com. Great pricing, selection of all types of media and rapid delivery.
