I used it quite some time ago - worked well as I recall - depends how bad the damage is of course.

As these play in your home theater system I would also suggest trying them on a friends computer as I have had success with different DVD drives.

Hey SIW2 thanks a lot for this link--I have looked far & wide for such things and never found this one (downloaded it already).

Looks like a "file recovery" tool vs. IsoPuzzle's "disc recovery (iso)" method and this may be more appropriate to the OP's problem.

Seems a little suspicious to me (if it works, why don't they charge for it?) but I look forward to trying it out...

A more or less complete list of CD DVD Data Recovery Software overview here .

I shall add just one more PhotoRec.(Rather than trying to use the file system to recover files, Photorec reads the raw data to enable it to recover lost files on damaged hard disks, CDs, DVDs, and even digital camera memory cards.)

Always try with another if one does not work. There is no one-size fits all.:)

hey guys...thank you all for your suggestions..and instructions. Tried with ISOBuster and it got failed too. Then visited my friends home and gotall the dvds copied to a USB pen without any loss of data (dont know for sure. but seems everything is there) :):):) now in my HDD.

I just wondering why didin't they work on my notebook or desktop dvd drives but worked in players without lags :O and the final conclusion I came for is I will never again use dvds or any kind of that media to backup my valuble data. I rather go for a another HDD. even though it had a breakdown data can be recovered with some professional assistance. Thank you all for your concern very much. really appreciate it.:)

I can only hypothesise that the combination of focus, tracking and error correction performance of CD/DVD ROM drives may not be as good as that of hardware DVD Players.

(As far as DVD Players are concerned we have practically seen that certain DVD Players have superior error correction capabilities and can play certain DVDs which otherwise are unplayable in certain other DVD Players.)

This can only mean IMO that both your laptop and PC drives at home are messed-up, unless maybe you created the DVDs on a 3rd setup (or older drive you no longer have).

It's not unusual for different drives to do a better job of reading than others, but it seemed from your description that the media was really bad. Out of curiousity, if you could report these?

1. Drive you burned them on make/model
2. Drive(s) that failed to read them
3. Friend's drive that finally worked

If you made the disc(s) on a drive you still have, and which won't read them now, if the discs haven't gone bad then the drive itself has (not unusual I suppose).

Congrats on getting your files back! :)

Agreeing with jumanji. My home theater dvd player can also play some damaged DVD movies which are unable to load on PC.

Maxseven - yes I forgot to mention that Im not using the same drive. Those were burnt with a Asus DVD writer (Can't remember the exact model...it was the one I applied when assembling the desktop). But Im pretty sure those are burnt with Nero 7 in 8x speed. I always use that speed to preserve the quality.

Drives that failed to read was DVD writer in desktop which is Sony DRU-710 which was bought new via Ebay few months ago. and my notebooks dvd drive(Dont know about the model. they just telling that HP DVD RW)

And then drive that I have copied them was a Panasonic Player. Dont know about a model. Its just not only a dvd player. It includes a home theater system, a tape recorder and those kinda tape player, usb facilities, firewire port for connecting digi cams, facilties to record TV to DVDs or Usb. In my words, thats really a hell of a thing to posses :):D

And about the drives Im using write now, couldnt spot any errors. Everything works just as they supposed to be.

Sorry for the late. Im having a exam on monday.
