DVD won't write with WIN7 anymore

Hi All.
I usually backup data and other stuff on a regular basis using Win7 Ultimate to my HP 1070i DVD drive. I did the typical selecting directories and send to DVD as normal. After I had my selection I opened the holding area for my DVD writer and selected Write to DVD.
It tried and kicks out theblank DVD and says DVD is not writable please insert a writable DVD and try again.
Well I tired this a few times with different blank DVD with the same result.
It works fine with CD's using this method.

I then decided to install Nero Burning and made the same selection and it wrote to the DVD with no problem.

Has anyone had any similiar problems writing DVD with Win7?

The DVD are high quality disks that I have been using for over a month.

It might be just as simple as a dirty dvd head. Blow it out with canned air. It is something to consider though as a dvd drive ages its heads change and what it is writing today may be unreadable in as little as 3 months.

You might want to consider backing up to HD.

On the flipside of that: I can attest to say that Windows 7 seems to have some sort of issue with certain writers, and its usually driver issues. Run a second check on your manufacturers website to see if they have a Firmware flash available - that could potentially fix some issues, as well as the aforementioned writing head cleanout.

Thank you both for your ideas.
No dust or dirt as it only works fine with Nero but not the Win7 burner.
The DVD is good for Win7 and no updates for firmeware.
I think I may just unplug it and shut downa then have Win7 reinstall drivers.
Seems to be using some basic MS drivers from 2006.
