Headset microphone not plugged in ( but it is)

Hello everybody

I know this question has been asked many many many times but after spending a fair amount of hours trying to find a solution, after trying each and every suggestion i have found on other posts.. i cant solve my microphone problem and it is for that that i seek your help.

Here is my problem : I cant get the hearset microphone ( Trust GHS 303) to work. It is always the integrated one that is used.

I have tried to update the drivers, i have verified that the headset works in my desktop and it does
noting is muted and all volumes are at the max.

I had Realtek installed and i tried that popular solution of going to the advance settings on the yellow folder... and blah blah but problem is that doesnt matter wich version of Realtek i install.... i can get the damn folder nor the advance settings....

As you can see when i go to the recording devices it says the mic is not plugged in ( even when it does) additionally when i have Realtek installed this option that now is grey doesnt even show

I dont know what else to try. Does any of you maybe know how can i get the mic to be detected so i can use it as default?

I looked at the vendor's web page but very little info about this model.

It looks like it has separate plugs for the headset and the microphone. Do you have two separate jacks on your laptop, one for the headset and another for the microphone? That is apparently what you need. There are some laptops that have a "combo" jack that can either be a headset jack OR a microphone jack but not both, and there are some newer ones that have a combo jack but it requires a "TRRS" plug like an iPhone headset/mic to work.

Thanks for your reply.

Laptop has 2 separate jacks one for mic one for headset and also the headset has 2 separate plugs ( pink and green) The one for the headphone works fine, i can play the laptop sounds through them , but the mic... thats another story and only the laptop one is detected.

Several thoughts.
1. Computer mics require 5V DC. That will be on the "ring" connection on the PC jack. One Possibility.
2. Do you have the correct sound drivers? If you only have High Definition Audio you need the correct driver
3. Can you try the mic on a different PC?

In regards to your points:

1. I dont really know what you mean with the 'ring' connection of the PC Jack.
2. I had Realtek HD drivers, tried many versions looking for that 'yellow folder' for the advance settings to try the solution that is most often advised on the forums but with Realtek drivers, the mic jack is not even showing on the recording devices window ( i would share printscreens but i am not sure how to insert them here). So even latest version of the sound drivers doesnt help
3. Mic works fine on my desktop.


Now, and please i excuse me if what i say doesnt make much sense or if it is not possible ( im not too tech but just thinking possibilities here)

Could it be that the mic jack is damaged? how could i test that? And what are the odds that it breaks with relatively little use?

Is there anything in the Bios that can 'deactivate' the mic jack? or make the integrated one the default irreplaceble one?

The "ring" is the middle band on a stereo plug, The end is called the "tip" and large part is the "sleeve".

The jack could be damaged. It would take a qualified PC tech to check.

There is nothing in the BIOS or Windows to disable it

Mic Jack has 2 back rings so if i understand what you said right, that is not the issue?

Is there anything else that i can try? or check?

To check for the needed 5 volts DC would require a tech voltmeter. Same as it would need a tech to check hardware

I just want to make sure before i take the laptop to the tech service that i have tried all i could and that there no other alternative.

Update:
I re- installed windows 7 totally hoping that maybe that would help... well it didnt.

Someone suggested me to get a USB sound controller, so i decided to give it a try. If the problem was the sound card or the defect mic Jack, this should help right?.... Wrong!!

Headset works fine, but mic still doesnt, however this time the headset microphone is detected on the record devices window which is more that happenes when i plug the mic jack in the sound card directly.

I have check that the mic is not muted and the volume is 100% but still nothing.

I really dont know what to do anymore. It seems that the builtin mic is somehow forced to be the one and only.

Any suggestions please?
