Solved Easy File Transfer - Merge or Replace?

I would like to use Easy File Transfer to Merge Files from one W7 PC to another.
I am a User on both PC's and use the same User Name on both PC's.
My hope is that Easy File Transfer will Merge like named Files from one PC to the other.
My fear is that it will Replace or Write Over the existing File.
Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

What file suffixes are you talking about in particular?

Have you looked at this => Windows easy transfer for Win 7 to Win 7?.

Wow, that's over my head / experience / knowledge.

I have a desktop that I have used for years, my desktop is called Mike.
I have a laptop that I have used occasionally, my desktop is called Mike.
Both have MS Office 2007.
I would like to use Easy File Transfer to merge / combine the two PC's.
I will continue to use the desktop and discontinue using the laptop.
Will Easy File Transfer work for this purpose?

[1] What are you hoping to merge/combine?
[2] Are you talking about Programs/Software or data files like MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access etc?
[3] If we knew what files specifically you are talking about we might be able to advise and help you!

Not the programs. I have the Disks for all of them and they are already installed on both PC's. Just things like Spreadsheets, Word Documents, Emails that might be on one and not the other.

What do you mean by "merge?" Do you mean the contents of one file and another become a single file? Otherwise you're not merging files, but folders. If folders named "Photos" on 2 computers are merged, now "Photos" on computer 1 contains files from both computers.

Just drag over the files from the 2nd computer to the first. Windows automatically will not keep 2 copies of the same file in the same folder, so that's not an issue. You don't even need Easy File Transfer.

Am I missing something here!

Why can't you transfer all the files that you want to keep onto a USB or an external HDD and then copy [incorporate] them into the folders on the other computer. This way, you have a choice when you copy them to either overwrite the file [if it exists in the folder already] or keep both files [if they have the same file name]. This way will give you time to be 100% sure that the correct file is kept!

You could also transfer the files quite easily if you have a local/home Network!

Maybe you know about transferring stuff to a USB drive or an external disk but I never thought of doing that.

I started out trying to ask about Easy File Transfer, who's name describes what I want to do.

I questioned how it works so if I used it, I might have tried it.

Your solution sounds like 'the' way to go.

It would be the easiest way [solution] to approach this!

Easy File Transfer has been known to have problems while it is running. Things like dropping out and corrupting files during transfer.

I presumed they were networked, and you would have seen the filing system of both computers on one monitor. So go ahead with Paul's method.
