Easy MKV file viewing in WMC

First, I have done a search and found some stuff but everything I find is so different with now answers the same and a little confusing to me. (Not a computer expert here) What is currently the easiest way to play MKV files with WMC? I'd like as little add-on downloads as possible and a process where the videos can simply be played with WMC without extra steps to watch them.

Also, if it makes a difference, I not only want to view them with WMC on the computer but through my xbox360 as well which is an extender.

If you do not wish to configure anything, Shark007 codec pack will have everything in it needed for MKV with little to no effort at all, complete with AC3 filter.

youll need to install the Win7 pack first, then the 64bit addon if you have Win7 x64 for it to work in WMC

I Have the 32 version so I take it I don't need that addon? Will it work with the 32?

Will watch this thread for more confidence in the package ..before I download..not sure I like the idea of the package stripping out previous codecs

You only need the 64bit addon if you have a 64bit OS.

Do you have Shark007 codec package installed?

As mentioned, you only need the 64bit addon package if your OS is 64bit. With Win7 32bit you need only Shark007 Win7 codecs.
