MKV file playback?

For x64 Media Center playback, you may need to disable the DivX MF splitter on the MKV TAB

Still nothing, I just uninstalled both packs. Any chance re-installing may work?

Is there something else I should try? I tried ffdshow or whatever it is with no luck either.

God this is getting frustrating. This worked perfectly on my old computer.

Why not do as I did, and ditch WMC in favor of XBMC?

Thats a lot of work involved. And most of it is over my head. Last couple computers I have had I just installed codecs and it worked fine. I believe one computer I had Divx and the other I had the Shark pack. I dunno why I am having issues with this one, the only difference is this is the first system I have a 64bit Windows 7 version. I wouldn't think that would screw things up though, as I am sure others running a 64bit Windows 7 have accomplished the task.

I finally got MKVs to play on this computer yesterday, with Haali Splitter and AC3Filter. But I obviously cant stream to the xbox with this setup.

You mentioned in one of your earlier posts that you got it to play but the audio was very low, i have this problem with some mkv files and have found that it is normally associated with the actual audio format, when i play it using my tv it is muted but if i play it through an amp it is fine.
Solutions that have worked for me is to convert the mkv file to avi or mp4, you could use a program such as handbrake(which is free) or dvdvideosoft or purchase a converter program. The other option is to use a streaming software Vuze(which is also P2P) or PS3media server which now after the latest xbox updates can be used as a media server for xbox(2 youtube links for you)

My biggest issue is that some people who make MKV's test them with VLC, and some with Media Player Classic. I have not updated My codec's in some time but I noticed that no single solution plays all MKV's perfectly. I would like to play these through Media Center, but have had limited luck :(

I ran Shark 007 on Windows Vista, but after upgrading to Windows 7 I have used K-Lite. I am wondering if its time to de-install k-lite and install shark again. Anyways, thanks allot for the work on the codec packs, We do Appreciate them!

There is a new Win7codecs 3.0 series in development and you can get a BETA from MajorGeeks. It is only avaialble in 32bit at this time.

The current release is stable and there is a good chance it will play all your MKV's. After installation, open the app as an administrator, and then use the Windows Filetype Associations button. If Media Center is your targetted player, you will probably need to disable the Microsoft Video decoder on the SWAP TAB to enable the installed codecs to be used for playback.

If you have any problems with Audio, go to the Audio TAB and press the button to setup LAV audio.

I've had no problem with XBMC playing MKVs, but then I've had no problems with VLC doing so either. I have been having some problems with VLC lately, but that is not related to the type of video file being played.
