I have an old Epson Stylus Photo Ex printer (Model P953A) which was given to me a few years ago. I am using a USB to Parallel cable. When I try to print it says printer is ready, document goes into queue then just has "error printing" message. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, stopping spooler then restarting it, no luck. Can anyone help please?

I would suspect the USB cable. I've seen a lot of reported problems with these. Apparently not all the control signals are present in the USB/Parallel interface and I've never seen one work successfully. The only way to use a Parallel (Centronics) interface is to use a PCI/PCIe parallel port card.

However, considering the old printer VS cost of parallel card if even possible it may be best to just buy a new printer, if you need one.

Thanks fireberd. If thats the case, I'll take the cable back - only bought it yesterday. I have another printer, just thought I'd try the old one as it prints A3 and I wanted to print my family tree.

I would take it back, if you can. As noted I've yet to see one work with a printer. I worked the Dell forums for many years and no user ever got one to work there. I've tried them myself (3 different brands) and NONE worked.
