Error 5: Access is denied when try to install programs

Have you changed your firewall recently? Either installed a new one or changed settings on the one you use? That seemed to be the problem I had...even though my account was set up as administrator, the new Vipre firewall was not allowing me to perform administrator functions, such as installing new applications. Creating a new account with administrator permission, and creating the hidden administrator account also did not solve the problem, since they were as crippled as my original account.

I uninstalled the version of Vipre with the firewall included, which I didn't know how to configure correctly, and went back to the "normal" Vipre (anti-virus and anti-spyware/malware only). I then fired up Windows Firewall, and all is well now.

Just wondering if you're running into a firewall issue too? :huh:

ill try to uninstall current firewall (nod32) and try viper... what version do you have? is it a good anti-virus?

edit: i just realize something... if i unistall NOD32, and the problems is still up... i wont be able to intall it again.. or any antivirus what so ever...

another question... can i change temp folder's directory?

Anti-virus and firewall programs are NOT the same thing. My problem was caused by the beta version of Vipre which included a firewall. The "normal" anti-virus version of Vipre was fine and is what I reinstalled after doing the system restore and getting my system back to normal. It's an excellent program, but it is not free.

Yes, don't uninstall anything since you likely can't install any new programs. Also, if nod32 is an anti-virus, that was NOT what caused the problem for me; it was a poorly configured firewall.

You may be using Windows Firewall. I had turned that off to use Vipre firewall, but have since re-enabled it.

I wonder why you don't have any restore points? I had a whole list of automatic ones to choose from...those saved the day for me.

It might be worth temporarily disabling the firewall you are using (Windows Firewall) most likely, then trying to see if you are still getting the errors.

Good luck...unfortunately I am nearly as much of a newbie on this stuff as you so can't help that much other than tell you what worked for me!

Solution found for Vipre users (such as myself). I ran into this problem twice so far, and the first time i blamed the installer application to be f*cked up, but the 2nd time i investigated a bit further, also reading this thread.

The obvious thing i noticed is that Emily7 is (or was) running Vipre. The next thing i did is

Right click the Vipre icon in the task bar and choose "Shutdown Vipre".

And that, ladies and gentlemen, did the trick. After you complete the installation that previously failed, just launch Vipre again to re-activate it. I could imagine that other AV/Firewall products create the same problem. In this case using the disabled Admin account won't help, and also not necessarily a rollback with system restore. The AV/FW software was - in the case of Vipre - causing the problem.

Shutdown Vipre -> Error gone.

Error 5: The Comeback

I am trying to run latencymon on my computer to fix some misbehaving drivers that are causing latency issues that create audio drop outs and clipping. I get this error:

"Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted Error 5: Access is denied"

I have ran Malwarebytes and no issues.
I have ran SFC scan and no issues.
I have also moved the setup file to desktop and tried running it from there right click run as admin.
I have also used Windows 7 troubleshooter and ran it in Windows XP SP3 compatibility.

No postive results yet.

I have read on a forum that this may be because I don't have the option to write to a temporary folder and this can be fixed in folder options although that forum was for XP and I cant find those advanced options for folders in my control panel.

If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful for you input.

I have exact problem even after doing all suggested solutions. I even disabled Windows Firewall...still nothing.

I started having this problem trying to install the latest update of Glary Utilities, and got sent to this thread by their help folks,although I'm running XP-SP2.

Reading the thread reminded me that I had just installed the latest version of Webroot AntiVirus + Spysweeper.

Following what seems to be the major suggestion of this thread, I uninstalled Webroot and voila!

Glary installed with absolutely no problem.

So, my addition to the thread is to first try uninstalling your anti-virus.

(BTW, I also run Avira Antivir Personal (the free version)- and have kept it running throughout with no problems

Easy: right click the setup file, choose run as administrator. Problem solved.
