Hi,

I know very little about computers and accidentally installed Windows 7 on our laptop thinking it was Word. I had it on a disc but no product key. I have now lost all my programmes and can't connect to the internet as it says something about a missing driver. And giving error 651.

Please could anyone help, can I remove Windows 7 if I haven't actually entered a product key?

Thank you

Jayne

Are you serious ?

Didn`t you even read the disc before you used it ?

I really find it hard to believe that you installed Windows 7 and did not know what you were doing.

If the drive was formatted during the install, well then, you lost your data. It does not matter if you`ve entered a product key or not.

Hi,

I know it was very clumsy of me, I was rushing and just saw Microsoft on the box! I haven't got a huge amount on my laptop so maybe I would be best just backing up what I need and resetting thr laptop back to its original settings.

Like I said I know nothing about computers, I was just hoping someone on here would be able to help.

Thanks Jayne

Then get your files from the windows.old folder before you do anything else.

Do you have any recovery dvd`s or cd`s etc.

Can you post a shot of disk management for us ?

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/274797-disk-management-post-screen-capture-image.html

If you don`t have recovery dvd`s or if you have wiped out your recovery partition, there`s no way of re setting anything.

What version of windows came with the computer, check on the COA sticker. It looks like this.

Oh I see, so I may not be able to restore it back to the original settings? I have got cds to back things up on to and was planning on buying a memory stick tomorrow to store more. Its just Word docs, photos and some music.

The sticker says Windows 7 Home Premium CA, which is what I seem to have re installed.

I Can't get a screen capture unfortunately as since I've re installed the disc I have become unable to connect to the internet. I'm using my tablet to send this.

Thank you for your help

You have to install the network drivers, then you can plug in your Ethernet cord and get out to the net.

Go to the manufacturers website of your pc to download the network drivers. They will be called LAN drivers.

Use a working pc to download the drivers and put them on the flash drive, then put the flash drive in the problem pc and install the drivers.

And here`s yet another tutorial to read.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/97061-driver-install-device-manager.html

You should be an expert on installing drivers after you`ve read all the links I`ve posted

In a nutshell, a driver is a set of instructions the Operating System uses to communicate with a piece of hardware connected to the system, whether it be a video card, a printer, a hard drive, or in your case the network adapter (the small square shaped plug you put the ethernet cord in)
