Error 800 when trying to remote connect via VPN

Hi, I keep getting an error when trying to remote connect to my work pc via VPN. I set the VPN up correctly & configured firewall to allow the port, etc.

Hi AAAHome! I see the IP address you're connecting to is a 192.168.x.x. This is typically a "local address" block. Unless the "work pc" you mentioned is in your house/on your network, that wont work. You need to get the WAN (Wide Area Network) IP of the work pc's network. You can find this by going to www.whatismyip.com whilst using the work pc. You would then use this number to try to connect. oops quick questions - is this WAN IP what I also use in setting up the VPN's on my router?

You need your works VPN address. Like: vpn.myworkdomain.com or a public IP address like: 68.71.111.23. Once you have that you enter that as the VPN you want to connect to. You may need to call your work's IT department for the information.

In the router, TCP Port 1723 (for a pptp VPN) should be port-forwarded to the Host computer's Local IP address. This number will likely be the 192.x.x.x referenced in the picture.

Ok that's how I have it currently set up. I have 3 users set up so the IP's are 192.x.x.x (1), 192.x.x.x (2), etc. & the TCP ports I have as 1723, 1724, etc. Is it correct to go up one number for each computer/user?

Unfortunately I am the IT person. I was sort of thrown into it regardless of knowledge (or lack thereof). :shock:

Also, I've seen reference to work domains or hosts but have no idea how to know what ours are, i.e. vpn.myworkdomain.com. How do I find out what ours is? (I can't ask IT cuz it's me).

No worries. The WAN I mentioned finding will be the same thing that all the clients connect to. They will also all connect to the same host VPN server. (I assume. Your company may have more that one) You will only need to forward 1723 to the Host server's local IP on the network. To re-cap:

user 1, 2, and 3 will all connect to the WAN ip address.
The network that the VPN server (Host) is on should have TCP 1723 forwarded to the VPN server's local IP.

Ok I was actually able to connect using my works VPN address, BUT once it completed the connection it still showed my computer, with my stuff on the hard drive, plus it didn't have internet connection. Any ideas?

Not quite but I'm closer. Like I said in my last post, I am now able to log in but my computer still displays the computer I'm logging in from instead of the one I'm logging in to.

When configuring my router, it requires a description, a port (1723) & the private IP's. It wont let me set up more than 1 with the same port, so how do I do this? Don't I need one for each private IP that will be wanting to connect remotely?
