may as well admit it right now, i'm extremely lazy. plus i have to wait about 5 minutes (sometimes more) for the flashing loading light to stop blinking (more like a solid white) before i can do anything faster than at a snail's pace. so usually i end up only restarting when a program is bugging me to.

plus i'm extremely careful about what sites i go to anyway, i don't think anyone's specifically out to send me a virus through Windows Media Player any time soon. i don't even use WMP much, i use Winamp more actually.

found that D is the drive i should run the command on, so i corrected it but stiol got error 87. i typed it in twice to make sure i didnt typo anything.

apologies for the bad photo quality, if it's not readable it says that cleanup-image/revertpending actions is an unknown option.

You missed a space before the /revertpendingactions ;)

In general, anywhere in CMD, a forward-slash '/' requires a space before it.

looks like it did what it was supposed to do! Try Windows Update again... do a check for updates and see what happens.

windows update is creating a restore point right now, crossing my fingers hoping it doesn't get stuck at 35% and then fail again.

also, i'm guessing that by the lack of mentioning it, that scratch directory size warning isn't anything to worry about?

i dont think it worked, it's doing the same thing it's been doing, which is taking an unusually long time "preparing to configure Windows", getting stuck at 35%, then giving up and reverting the changes.

i dont know if this is of any help but i took a picture of the one file it tends to hang up on when applying updates before the login screen shows up.

Wait for it to revert, and then post the new CBS.log file, and C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

i tried to attach CBS.log but it says i don't have permission to open the file, and i'm logged in with an administrator account.

i think there was another update since the last time i attempted to install KB3033890, so i'm not sure if that messed with the logs or anything like that. but regardless i've posted them.

if you need me to i can attempt to install it again and then re-post the logs.

YOu need to copy the CBS.log file to the desktop, then compress the copy.

There are no errors in that log - and no SFC data either.
I'd say it had probably been hived off into one of the CBSPersist cab files - except for the fact that this log dates from the 17th June to today.

There is something very odd here...
Let's have a look at the event logs.

Open Event Viewer

click on theWindows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on theApplication entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File'in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file asAppevt.evtx

Repeat for theSystem log

then zip both,and upload them.

There are two programs I suggest you uninstall - at least temporarily...
1) Privdog - it appears to be causing problems with the WMI services (which version do you have installed?)
2) Video Accelerator - it's leaking registry handles every time.

Then try again.

i already uninstalled PrivDog a while ago, i heard things about it enabling man in the middle attacks with outdated certifcates.

couldve sworn i uninstalled Video Accelerator too, but illcheck again once my laptop is done booting.

by the way i typically use Revo Uninstaller to clean up whatever mess is left by standard installers. do you mind if i use it in this case?

EDIT: pretty sure i also uninstalled Video Accelerator, i can't find it in Control Panel, Revo Uninstaller or CCleaner. going off on a tangent here, i uninstalled that a looooong time ago, our house used to have the crappiest internet... got no use for it now, now that it's not less than 1 Mbps.

Looks like you've installed a hack to enable Group Policy - and you've also installed KB3068708.
I suggest uninstalling KB3068708 and hiding it when it reappears in WU - at least until the machine is fixed again.

I'll post a fix for the GP hack later.

dont quite remember installing a group policy hack, although just reading the words makes me feel like i heard about it somewhere before. i think the only time i even bothered with file permissions was when Windows Media Player just randomly stopped allowilng new music to stream to my Xbox 360, and found that mp3s after a certain date were missing some sort of permissions. it wasnt a pertinent problem so i never actually fixed it.

do the logs say what the group policy hack is called? that might jog my memory.

as for the Windows update you mentioned, i went and searched it up on Google and it just seems to be causing mayhem in general (mainly a huge CBS folder and apparent false positives on SFC.exe), so ill uninstall that as soon as i get on my laptop.
