hey guys,i'm running windows vista 32-bit on my dell laptop. i have an intel centrino processor with a 2.1Ghz speed and 3GB RAM. i tried to install windows 7 ultimate from a dvd. after resolving all issues, the installation finally began. i decided to upgrade my windows. however, in the first step (Copying new files), the setup got stuck at 51%. after some time, i got an error message telling me that files required for setup are unreadable and therefore setup cannot continue.

i understood that there was an error in the installation disk itself. any way to work around this? because i'd really like to install windows 7 on my laptop. thanks in advance

You have a problem with the installer. Where did you get Win7? How is it being activated? Did you burn the ISO to disk yourself? If so confirm the ISO and burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

hi,actually i was given a windows seven dvd by a friend. it read windows 7 ultimate acivated. i don't have the actual iso with me. so i really can't answer that question. but it seems as if there is some read error in the disk

Hi,

There is no Windows 7 DVD installation media with the words "Activated" on it - so this sounds like a cracked version of Windows 7. How were you planning to activate this Windows 7 installation as genuine?

Golden

Like Golden said, no Windows 7 DVD is pre-activated. It has to be activated either while it is finishing installing or after it is installed. Even if it is a cracked version, it would still have to be activated after Windows 7 finished installing.

Buy Win7 or we can't help you further unless you want to reinstall the licensed version on the PC.
