I tried posting this on the Installation thread, but did not receive a lot of help/advice. (septprince and Antman being the exceptions: Thanks!)

I am trying to upgrade to Windows 7 (RC) from Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I get all the way to "Transferring files, setting and programs. (66%)" and I get the following message:

The instruction at 0x76da3892 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.

I have tried new media without any success.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

I appreciate any and all help.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but IMO never upgrade ... it tends to leave a lot of trash laying around when its finished... back up your programs and valuable data and do a clean install instead..

Thanks Tews.

I think that is what I will have to end up doing. It is odd, though, that no one else has run into this error before.

Have you tried uninstalling some of your games or maybe graphics programs?Seems to be where your trouble is a program setting or file?

Yes. I am pretty bare bones now. I think I am just going to go ahead and perform a clean install.

Thanks!

Another thing that has been mentioned is removing some ram sticks, looks like you have 6gigs in your spec list. Might try that. you can add it back in after install. maybe try 2 gigs.Good luck to you with the clean install.
