Errors 800B0100 and 80246007 when trying to do updates

Hello Everyone,

I recently installed a new MOBO and a new CPU into my PC and then did a fresh install (I think) on a new SSD. I receive these errors every time I try to complete the last "27 important updates". From what I can tell, the updates have to do with Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried downloading SP1 and manually running the setup but as soon as I hit 'Next' on the install page it immediately says 'Installation was not successful'. I have tried using multiple 'Fix It' as well as the Update Tool which just hangs and then says it was not installed.

I have attached my CBS Logs (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS) as I believe that is the log file I am supposed to submit?

Is this an easy fix? Or should I just re-install the OS again. I just did the install today so it wouldn't be the end of the world, however I would rather not have to continue this problem and rather just fix it.

Please correct me if I am wrong in any of this as this is my first time posting.

Thank you for any and all help and hopefully I can get this sorted.

Please downloadand save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need tolook in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft DownloadCenter)

Run it - The toolcan take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install')depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear tofreeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result islogged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip theCheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

I have uploaded the file. I should also add that I went through steps you mentioned in another thread, that being, I downloaded the folder from your SkyDrive and added the files to the two designated folders. The CheckSUR log I have attached to this response is after I have added the files and then ran a new check.

NEVER download random files - they could have been totally the wrong ones for your system, and made an annoying situation a LOT worse!

My apologies. I have been working may through a few different problems and have about 12 hours straight since I first started working on my PC. Moving forward I will definitely just post prior to trying to solve on my own.

Is the problem solvable or should I just try to do another fresh install? I was on the phone with Microsoft support earlier today for 45 mins trying to fix my product key, blah.

Thank you very much for your help and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers,
Jamie

I've uploaded a file - jr1aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder jr1aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

I have done the above and uploaded the two files. Also: it won't let me directly archive the files and gives me Access Denied. So I open them, copy them to a new notepad doc and save. Not sure if this makes a difference or not but thought I would mention it.

Thanks

I've uploaded a file - jr1ab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder jr1ab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Great! - that's cleared the CheckSUR of errors.
Now for the rest of the file system.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your reply so that I can take a look.

There are no errors in the CBS log now - and nothing in the SFC.

The 80246007 error in the thread subject is an interesting one - it's a 'not downloaded' one, and very rarely seen.

Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer - what happens?
If/when it fails, please use the Diagnostics to see if they can tell us something...

Glad to hear there are no errors in the CBS log. Also, I had a fair bit of issues with validation with my product key not working. I ended up on the phone with Microsoft for 40 minutes and got everything sorted. I just went to that link and it said my PC was validated.

Hmmm
MS techies (at least until you get to level 3 support) tend to work off scripts.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we may be able to see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

It's a custom built PC. The booklet in the disc case says "Windows 7 Home Premium". If that helps?

Hmm - unusual to see a system that's had activation problems that's never been validated, while it has the WAT update installed..

There is a popup that says "Windows Validation is in Process". Then it redirects me to a page that says "Welcome to Windows. Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine, enjoy the security, reliability and protection it provides." Then gives a little blurb about MSE.

That's the standard response to a genuine system :)
It also tells us that the normal routes to the Microsoft servers are working properly, and aren't being blocked by any of your security software.

What happens if you try Windows Update now?
Go to WU and do a manual check for updates - then install only the oldest update found.
what happens?
If it installs, reboot, and install the rest - if not, then post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.
