"Ethernet" Connection Drop

Yah, well so far anyway this seems to be a fix.. I downloading the nForce drivers from nVidia's web site and then ran the setup, de-selected all the other drivers other than the network card.. It updated the drivers which now show as nVidia as opposed to MS for the network card and knock on wood, so far so good. :)

my old drivers were nvidia's win7 x64 beta drivers from may. So they showed as NVidia. But i have rolled them back to vista 64 drivers. we'll see how that works.

I put my connection through the rigors of trying to watch 3 videos on ninjavideo at once while downloading torrents (usually, the combination of torrents and a single ninjavideo would nix my connection at least once every 10 minutes or so), and thus far, nothing.

It's too early to tell, but, so far, Vista x64 drivers for nvida nforce 6 series motherboard chipsets work better than the windows 7 x64 beta drivers for the same chipset. I will keep updating as things develop. fingers crossed, at least.

i am running, it shoul dbe mentioned, build 7100.

This is still a problem for me on 7232 x64 and Marvel Yukon onboard LAN. The latest Vista x64 drivers are more stable than the ones supplied with Win7 but it still drops fairly often.

so far the vista x64 driver is working stably for me. But, we'll see. Who can predict.

Whatever this issue is, i hope microsoft is aware of it. IF they are not aware of it, theyre going to get panned at release time.

What blows my mind is that of all the beta reviewers, none appear to have had nvidia chipsets...

cause none mentioned their ethernet dropping constantly.

ethernet woes

I'm glad I found this thread because I was beginning to think that I was having hardware issues with my new motherboard.

Just to give more datapoints, I'm running Build 7100 and have also noticed these strange network drop-outs. I've had two different types 1) intermittent short 1 or 2 seconds hiccups where requests will hang and ping packets will either drop or had unusually long times and 2) issues where heavy network traffic will just cause the network connection to completely drop causing gateway errors and giving the yellow exclamation point on the taskbar.

It seems, and it's hard to say for sure, that this started once I did the windows updates and pulled down all the critical updates. I had the machine running for about 3 days with no issues whatsover. However, the problem is so intermittent that I can't be sure it wasn't there before and I just didn't notice it.

I have also done alot of troubleshooting including removing my WRT54G from the picture and connecting my machine directly to the modem. I have been able to see issues both on my LAN and directly connected to the WAN. At one point, I was able to consistently cause the connection to drop (i.e. yellow exclamation point) by running a bandwidth test on SpeedTest.net. The connection would come back after a minute or two and then another speedtest would cause it to drop again.

For the first situation I mentioned above, I actually had to reboot the machine to correct the problem (the hiccups but not lost completely problem). For the second problem, I can just disable and re-enable the network adapter.

So far, I have tried disabling IPV6 and disabling all power server/WOL options in the card. Nothing, so far, has made a difference.

What cable modem and isp are you using? Have you upgraded the firmware in the router? have you run a traceroute from you to who ever you use most (MSN?)

Hope this helps
Ken

Vista - Cannot Enable File Sharing

I did as it says, and bingo! My sharing is responding and my networking is back on track! You'll have to do the same for other things, not just file sharing. This fixed my 10-20 minute connection drop and it should work across vista and seven. Some new Micro$oft update may be the culprit, but; alas, i have done it!

Meow!

Just tried this. And unbelievably it's worked (fingers crossed) and my ethernet has yet to drop, and I've been testing it to the fullest as well (torrents+messenger+surfing at the same time). What I did was:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security > (Left Column) Inbound rules > (Right Column) New Rule > Click on 'Predefined'> Select 'Network Discovery' > Select ALL the possible options > Click Next > Make sure Allow the Connection is selected > Click Finish

So far so good! And hopefully this will help others as well.

I applied these settings & yes my Ethernet is not dropping connection frequently, but now its still once a day problem, better than before at least.

Last few days of applying "levesquemarc" suggestion have now reduced the connection dropping to from frequent to rare but it still happens once a day, so its not completely gone away.

Will try doing a clean install of build 7600 & see if that sorts out this problem or not.

I've tried that advice and I've tried to completely disable the advanced firewall (simple firewall's disabled too), but without a solution. Yesterday night my connection's dropped at least 10 times during a simple file download (Internet Download Manager) at 700kb/s.

a fix

hey im new here but encountered the same problem as you guys. After some googling I found this thread Board Message

and this fix which works so far perfectly

Would like to point out I have been running nforce win7 drivers for 1 week now with no connection problems at all. Its been working great.

I copied this from my technet forum post on the issue:

LAN port configuration:
Sleep on disconnect: enabled
flow control: disabled
interrupt moderation: disabled
ip checksum offload: disabled
jumbo packet: 9014 bytes (this might have no effect for you)
ALL large send offloads: disabled
BOTH low power: enabled
network address: not present
priority & vlan: priority enabled
receive side scaling: disabled
speed/duplex settings: auto
ALL TCP & UDP offloads: disabled
vlan id: 1
ALL wake ons: enabled

Speeds are great, can burst load lots of web sites with no connectivity problems, and works after both restart/shutdown.

Haven't narrowed it down. It appears to happen after enabling one or multiple of the disabled settings.

after reading

Seems the problem has been isolated to the "Recieve Side Scaling" setting. The forum thread I mentioned above has several people mentioning that putting this single setting off, without touching any of the others, will indeed fix the problem.
