I've just connected a new PC to my ADSL modem and I get the above error in the event log. Also stating
"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x00etc..... The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."

I don't appear to have any connection problems apart from the error in the log.

Can anyone suggest a cause and remedy?

I wonder if your ADSL modem/router has issues with IPv6? Try disabling it to see if the error stops. Hopefully you aren't using homegroups... ;)
