Hello Everyone,

I am having a problem with my system..... None of the USB ports are working (front or rear). A few days ago I got the "USB Device not recognized" error message but it went away. Then last night I came home and tried to move the mouse and nothing worked.. I tried to type on the keyboard and nothing happened. The mouse was lit but the keyboard didn't have anything lit on it...

Here are the current specs:

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
- 4GB Ram Corsair
- eVGA 750i FTW Motherboard
- 250GB Western Digital Hard Drive
- Windows 7 32-bit
- Antec Nine Hundred
- Logitech MX518 Mouse (USB)
- Basic Dell Keyboard (USB)

I have tried the following fixes with no luck:

- Windows Updates
- System Restore
- Bios Update
- Different keyboard/mouse (USB) - (currently using PS2 mouse/keyboard to fix problem)
- Set bios back to default settings
- Tried connecting mouse/keyboard to different ports

I have run out of options.... Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

~Jeff~

PS: Mods/Admins -> please move to correct sub-section if this is not the right place.

You can try to go into Device Manager and right click the Standard Enhanced Host Controller under USB and Uninstall it. Then Right click any device in the Device Manager and Scan for Hardware Changes, this should reinstall it. If it still doesn't work then go into the Bios and Disable USB and save then restart. Now Restart, go back into the Bios and Enable USB and save. When you boot up it will load fresh USB drivers.

Good luck, hope this does some good

Hey Jeff, I hope it helps. I guess it can't hurt since you already don't have USB.

Hi there
this sound suspiciously like a Hardware problem.

On your Mobo did you plug in all the USB connectors correctly - they are usually USB2 type devices.

Open up the machine and check cables are the right way round.

Also check your BIOS to see if the USB ports are enabled.

Incidentally some MOBOS come with those USB connectors that have 4 lights on the metal connector which you bolt on to the case.
These are quite good for analyzing problems at boot time. If you have on of these connectors there should be a solid green light after boot.

Cheers
jimbo

Nate,

It did not work... I feel I am missing alot of devices under USB in Device Manger...

Jimbo,

I will check that when I get home. I actually took my PC over my buddy's house (who is more knowledgeable than me) and he is going to take a look at it for me.

I tried his Logitech USB Mouse & Logitech USB Keyboard and the mouse lights up but does not function. The keyboard doesn't get any lights..

At least you tried to help! That's all that matters.

Looks like eVGA may have a little problem. If you have one of the boards it's a big problem.

All the best Jeff, if I find anything I will let you know.

Hello All,

Hope you can help me before I re-install Windows 7 and see if that fixes my problem...

I am in the System Info -> Software Environment -> System Drivers

The following are not started:

USBCCGP - Microsoft USB Generic Parent Driver - Started: No
USBCIR - eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) - Started: No
USBPRINT - Microsoft USB Printer Class - Started: No
USBSTOR - USB Mass Storage Driver - Started: No
USBUHCI - Microsoft USB Universal Host Controller Miniport Driver - Started: No

Please advise on if these should be started and how one (myself) would start these...

Oh I checked the registry to see if they are started and the value are '3' and started... "supposedly"

Thanks

-Jeff

Update: Windows 7 was installed and no error messages but no USB ports work on the motherboard.

Problem was not fixed but I'm using a PCI USB card until I get a new motherboard.
