So I half downloaded an app and when I clicked it, it asked what program would I like to associate with it and I accidentally clicked Adobe Reader 9. Now I managed to delete Adobe Reader, but now it asks me what program to associate with .exe every time I run an app. Does anyone know where the ext are in the registry for Windows 7, or how to fix this?

Please help ASAP, as you can see this is a large problem

accidentally re-associated ALL .exe files to open IE!

So, obviously, next to nothing works. Tried this .reg file -- the problem persists, but it did say it was able to make the reg change (good news, since I can't even open regedit)

Any ideas on how to undo this registry change and reset EXE association to default for me?

As Shark said about malicious programs, never, ever click on a downloaded .exe program without first scanning that program for viruses... virus... virii?, and malware...

Windows 7 execs changed

I had the sam ething happen but with Windows Media Center as the default on ALL apps. Downloaded the latest trial version of Kaspersky and it magically fixed the issue. doing a deep scan to double check.

none of these work

I tried all of the above patches but with no joy. I also tried the microsoft support method, and that didn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Hello Concrnedstudent, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could you give more details on exactly what your specific issue? If it's not exactly the same as the first post, then you would get better help starting a new thread with details on your problem instead of being in this older one.

.exe file not executing

hi!

well yesterday i download one .EXE file and accedently clicked on OPEN WITH real player. now all my programms starts in real player. i uninstalled real player but still on the same point.
even followed the following steps but to no avail::sick:

1.press Ctrl + Alt + Delete - this will open a menu where you need to:
2.choose "Start Task Manager". When task manager is started
3.click on "File", then from the drop down list choose
4."New Task(Run..)" and when program "run" starts type
5."explorer.exe" in the white field, then
6.click "ok", this should solve your problem temporarily (windows should work fine now), if so
7.start the "run" program again and type
8."regedit in the white field, then
9.click on "ok", this will open the Registry Editor program where you will need to
10.open the location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft\ Windows NT \ Current Version \ Winlogon -(don't forget to click on Winlogon, not just that little triangle in front of it) when you done that on the right side will be a list of files
11.double click the "Shell" file
12.change the text in the text box "Value data:" to "explorer.exe"
12b. restart your computer and windows should run as normal.

i've downloaded LIMNEOS's exe file but to no avail.

still when i click on any program, even when i try to open REGEDIT, it ask me for chosing a program to open REGEDIT.
im really in trouble, please help me for geting rid of this problem.

thank,
sohail.
