Explorer Crash After Each Reboot Starting Browser

Here's a weird one for you...

The first time I start a browser after each reboot, I get a Windows Explorer crash, but it's not a full blown crash. It just says "Windows Explorer has stopped working", but it doesn't seem like it closes and restarts.

I first noticed it with Firefox, but then I switched back to Google Chrome. Same things. I haven't tried IE because, well, I don't use it.

After that, I never see it again until a reboot.

I'm on Windows 7 x64.

That is a memory access violation crash. It is usually caused by hardware or a faulty device driver.

Well, it turns out Cubase 5.5 64-bit is giving me the same type of crash and exception code. What driver/hardware can it be that browsers trigger it?.. and Cubase (recording software)?

I just ran Memtest. All 8GB passed twice. I'm not overclocked or anything. I suppose I could do a clean install and see what happens.

What is your have the DEP Setting set to ??

Change the DEP settings to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"

• Open the Explorer (Windows key + E) and right-click on “Computer”. Select “Properties” from the context menu.
• On the left click on “Advanced System settings”, click on the “Settings” button of the field “Performance”:

Go to the tab “Data Execution Prevention”:

Make sure you select "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only".

Go to http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab and download and install it.

Download Malwarebytes and run a complete scan.

DEP is setup correctly, and Malwarebytes didn't find anything.

Reboot the System in Selective Startup and see if you have the same problem Run Selective Startup using System Configuration

Been there. This is way more troubleshooting than I've ever spent on a single problem. I'm just gonna clean install tomorrow I think. It's about due anyway... been a few months!

I resolved the crash from the browsers, but Cubase is still acting up. I've ran several memory diagnostic tools and nothing has pointed to bad memory. All of my drivers are up to date.

I'll report back after my clean install. If it still happens then, I suspect an application bug or incompatibility somewhere.

Just faced the issue. Had to recover from previous snapshot.
It happened after me being silly running an executable downloaded from a doggys website. I thought it is an selfexecutable archive although MS Essentials did not captured it as a virus.
