explorer.exe

I've been looking for information about this for a while now. I was also using a switch (which I found via google) at the end of the shortcut to make it open in Computer instead of Libraries. After a week or so of normal use I would end up with a bunch of explorer.exe processes that wouldn't get released. Interesting.

did you by chance check "launch folder windows in a separate process" in the view options?

No. I've never changed that setting. It's unchecked.

I also see the same behavior as described above where if I use that command line switch to start in Computer then each window creates a new instance of explorer.exe. When I remove it (and as a result launch in Libraries every time) it doesn't make the duplicates in the first place.

That really is no different than the string I used, other than the CLSID in replace of the drive letter.

Regardless, that link you posted and the strings related still caused the age-old problem that, I am fortunate to say, IS fixed by turning off that string command. Thank god. I just forced myself to get used to the default. It's better than the alternative.

Not quite sure why other people using that string command aren't having the same problem. Oh no wait, I do see one person did encounter it in that thread, but the Admin's reply seems like he misunderstood the issue.
