Hello Good People of the Forum:

I recently installed a Memorex dvd/cd external drive on my system. (My internal drive wouldn't burn video files anymore.) I've got it all plugged in running just fine I find that when I try to burn a video the internal drive kicks into action. What I'd like to know is what do I change to make the Memorex unit my default burner. Many thanks in advance for your help

Regards
Powell Lucas

Hi Powell41

Try disabling the internal drive inside the BIOS .

Couple of options pal ;)

1. Physically remove the drive from the unit (one screw to remove then slide the drive out)
2. Disable the faulty unit in windows "device manager"
3. Disable the faulty device in the "bios" (best option)

Press F2 on the DELL splash screen to get to the BIOS screen

Inside the BIOS :

Look inside the Main section and see if you could disable the port under Sata 0-3 depending on the port the drive is plugged into .

   Tip
I'd unplug it from the computer altogether
