External Hard Drive Not Showing Up

I have a western digital 2tb hard drive and I am unable to access any of the information on it. It is listed in the devices and printers, but it doesn't give me many options to do much, just view it.

I know that it works on my hp laptop, but the laptop has since crashed. I purchased a new hp desktop and this is where my troubles are.

I tried to find it in disk management, however, it is not found there either. I'm not sure what else to do to access my information.

Any ideas?

Hello Trixi


Try a different USB port with the WD Ext HD power turned off. Then power it on to see if the device is found & added. Then check Disk Management.

Tried that... I guess I should mention that it is a 3.0 usb via ss port. Plugged into the front of my computer into an ss slot. When I uninstall it, and plug it in, it goes through the motion of installing it, but I just don't see it where it should be.
