Solved Failing to update?

Hi,
You did download the correct file for the other process it is 316mb for a 32 bit machine :)
You could try that method you just have to install the other update first then the 316mb one after.

What happened to the win-7 with sp1 installer ?

Hi,

Yes I have W7 SP1 on 2 DVDs, was just asking if that would make things simpler.

After W7 install before activating, 1st Windows6.1-KB3020369-x86 update and than 316 MB update correct..

Than activate and check for updates?

Not installing the 2 you mentioned before?

Thanks.

Edit:

In my last attempt using your method, got only 2 failed updates....what do you think...isn't that better?

Hi,
Yes only 2 is great which 2 failed
Did you see how many total updates it shows in Uninstall a program/ view installed updates on the top left ?

And yes those are the only 2 updates you would need to install !)KB3020369 then the other 2) 316mb update.

Hi,

On the last 3 clean install and updating using your method, once got only 1 error at other times 3.

I perform a clean install till your suggested method.

Than install updates in batches.

1. .NET 4.5.1 in Recommended.

2. Than Frameworks in Recommended.

3. Next IE11.

4. All .NET SP 4 updates approx. 12.

5. Than SP1, windows malicious, Active Killibits.

6. Next all .NET 3.5.xx..aprox 24.

7. IE11 security update.

8. All W7 security updates.

Derek's suggested method.

Errors that I normally get are with 3 of the .NET 3.5.xx security updates OR with cumulative security update or IE11.

Its strange at times 1 error only at others 3-5?

Any suggestions, to avoid them?

Haven't installed W7 so many times in all my life as in the last 8 odd weeks.

If I get max. 5 errors is good enough, shall have a hassle free W7 for a few months?

Hoping to hear from you,

Best regards!

Well to conclude, am going give it another try using your tried and tested method.

1 error is almost inevitable, only way to go avoid it using Brink's bat file method......

Shall wait for your reply or any input by Derek or Brink.

Best regards!

PS: have a look at the attachment, using Brink's bat file all 4 error giving updates got installed.

Edit:

Like posted earlier that's what MS support were trying to do but failing and not explaining either, wasting hrs.....

Hi,
Yep it is bazaar and irritating,
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3095675
From what I can understand of this process

You'd need to disconnect from the internet
1) start over with your win-7 sp1 install
2) manually install KB3020369
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46827
3) manually install KB3125574

Both of these updates have to be downloaded using ie11 in advance to a somewhat large flash drive so you can install them in order without an internet connection

If windows restarts after installing with a black screen for a while use Ctrl+Alt+Delete key board keys which will hopefully exit the black screen.

Hi,
You should give this one a spin you already have the 2 updates needed :)

Hi,

Thanks appreciate it.

I did try...... either way get failed updates.

That one time was awesome with only 1 failed update, now am getting around 25.

ThrashZone, am gonna try 1 more time, this time all stock, without the 2 updates you suggested before activation and without initially installing the recommended updates .NET 4.5.2 and frameworks.

Install all 168 important in one go, and than shall install the recommended ones .NET 4.5.2 and frameworks....your thoughts.......cause all tried methods till now give failed updates so why not try this too?

I would than have a yardstick to know which gives the max failed ones.....

Which msconfig utility should I use to uncheck unrequired startup services like Logitech C910 cam etc, cause I don't have high end machines like yours......

Want to tweak some services like windows media player changed from running/auto to manual/stopped...your thoughts and what other unrequired services be changed to manual or disabled, IF running....

Another question, have 2 120 GB SSD, why the discrepancy in drive size, one show total 111 and the other 119 GB........

Hoping to hear your expert views.

Best regards!

I had a feeling windows was more user friendly vs. Linus.......:sarc:

Hi,
The 119gb sounds like a advertised 128gb
The 111gb sounds like a advertised 120gb
Simplest I can explain is windows uses 1024mb = 1gb
Manufactures use 1000mb = 1gb
So there is the shortage but the total mb's is the same so it's just a reading difference.

I don't really know of any tweaking utilities for startup items other than reading the installation options and or the settings in each program... to see if it has Create a startup folder on install or in it's settings to not start with windows.

The only windows feature I usually would turn off is windows media center
I don't believe media player does anything on startup that I've ever noticed anyway.
Just go to Turn windows features on or off/ media/ and uncheck media center.

Using msconfig unchecking is better than using a utility to do it
Most believe just having your antivirus program is all you need checked

Hi,

Thanks for answering the queries.

Correct, one drive could be sized 128 GB and the other 120 GB.

Do you agree with my plan to go ahead with stock, W7 SP1 clean install, activate, check for updates and install all in one go.( With out the 2 updates).

After that install 2 recommended ones, .NET 4.5.2 and 2 frameworks ones?

Best regards.

Hi,
Of course you can try although we have already been down that road and a lot failed trying to install all of them at the same time.
Installing net 4.5.2 was another test which I guess it helped a little.

At some point you'd have to also possibly try manually installing

KB3145739
Win-7 sp1 32 bit download,
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51857

After that then this one KB3153199
Win-7 32 sp1 bit download
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52214

Then the newest update client

Hi,

Thanks again, 1 last question before a final install, if this gives fails update I'm done, shall use Brink's bat thread.

1. Install W7 SP1.

2. Install all 3 updates manually. Earlier was only installing these 2 KB3083710, KB3102810.....this would a new one before activating KB3138612.

First KB3083710

Second KB3102810

Third KB3138612......is the order correct?

3. Activate.

4. Check for updates.

5. Install .NET 4.5.2 and 2 frameworks in Recommended.

6. Than install all important.

How does that look?

Best regards.

Hi,
I skip KB3138612 that one you'd follow my last reply but that is after installing the first round of updates.

Then you can do the below if and when searching stalls,
Switch update settings back to Never check for updates Before installing these,
KB3145739
Win-7 sp1 32 bit download,
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=51857

After that then this one KB3153199
Win-7 32 sp1 bit download
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=52214

Then the newest update client and it will search for updates for you,

Hi,
Let us know how it goes,
And don't worry if the failed ones are under 10 or so
Brink's option 3 reset tutorial will get rid of them :)

You can as alway post which ones failed but the install where only one failed that was a keeper :p

Hi,

Thanks for the positive attitude and motivation....:)

If for some reason searching fails, which normally doesn't, the 3 updates you posted should be installed with or without internet connection, or it doesn't matter, with update settings to never check?

Its only the failed ones that are an issues which at times cross 20.....MS servers......
don't have a clue.

Best regards!

Hi,
The last 3 updates I posted only need the update settings switched to Never check for updates and restart the machine
Then you can use the browser and download them to the downloads folder or in advance to your flash drive it doesn't matter.
