File Association issue

I have issue where all the Icons on my desktop got changed some how and now they all reflect the Itunes logo. When I click on any Icon it launchs Itune/Ping program. The subscript on the icons was not changed (ie. MS Word 2010), but the Itune logo appears rather than the proper word Icon and when I click on it -- Itunes opens. I tried to rebuild the shortcuts on the desktop, but that did not work. Also, I tried to bebuild my Icon cache, but that did not work. I tried various ways to kill and restart explorer, but that did not work. I do not believe it is a virus or malware, but I could be wrong. I am currently running McAffee on the system

I see there may be some ways to redefine the file associations, but not sure it that will solve the problem. There are a few other things I can believe I can try based on details I have seen in the forum threads, but I wanted to see if anyone in the forum has experienced this specific problem with Windows 7.

All thoguhts about my issue and possible solutions are greatly appreciated.

Don

LNK / File Association problem resolved

Brink,

Thank you very much for your quick response to my post and providing me with the details on the programs that could re-establish my broken links in the Icons/default programs. It was a problem I had not experienced before and was uncertain how to resolve it until reading the Seven tutorials you suggested, and using your lnk association programs.

Many thanks

Don
