File Path Question ?

Hello,

Have a program that requires the entering of the File Path to a Driver.

The Path is, I think is:

C:\Program Files(x86)\winradio\G31DDC\Driver\G31DDCx64.sys

Can't get it to work, and am wondering if I have the Path entered correctly regarding its format.

Questions:

a. Is a space after the m and before the F in program files O.K., or must there be an underscore, or... ?

b. should there be a space between the Files and the (x86) ?

c. is a single \ O.K. after the C: , or should it be C:\\ ?

Everything else seem reasonable ?

I don't think I can answer your question but as you are going into the 32 bit Program Files folder it looks like you have a 64 bit driver. And is this not exactly the same problem that you raised in June of this year?

You can try wrapping the path in double quotes, like this

"C:\Program Files(x86)\winradio\G31DDC\Driver\G31DDCx64.sys"

Yes, there must be an space. Your example is correct.

Yes, there must be another space there. Your example seems to be missing this space.

c. is a single \ O.K. after the C: , or should it be C:\\ ?

Most likely, yes, it's OK. 99% of times, path are specified with all single backslashes. The only time when you need a double backslash is when you're writing in C-programming language style paths, where the backslash is an special character and needs to be escaped by doubling it. Almost every program I know does not need it, but yours might.

Also as previously said by DavidW7ncus, enclosing everything in double quotes may be necessary. Generally, when a path contains an embedded space or some other special character, it must be wrapped in double quotes.

In the Explorer Address you can also right click "Copy address as text".
For me this is easier and quicker to get a valid path without manual typing.

In addition, does the program have a "Browse" option to be able to navigate to and select the driver instead of having to manually enter it's path?

When you discussed this back in June, the file was in a different location.

And I'll offer one more way of getting the path to the file into the Windows clipboard:
Locate and select the file using Windows (file) Explorer
Hold down the shift key
Right click on the file
Select "Copy as path" from the context menu

The result should be that you now have the correct path in the Windows clipboard with quotation marks around the entire path.

Installing the software into a W7 64bit OS creates a folder like this:


Installing the software into a W7 64bit OS does not place the "G31DDCx64.sys" file anywhere else. I suspect that the OP is seeing an OS prompt asking for the driver location and the OP should point [browse] to the folder containing the INF... not paste the entire path to the "sys" file into the dialog box.

That inf file seems to indicate that the driver will be placed in the normal "System32\Drivers" folder once the hardware is detected. See the attached compressed file if you want to see the entire INF file.

Why don't you navigate to the file and copy the path from the address bar in Explorer
