file sharing between win 7 and Xp

Trying to set up a network between two machines one with Win 7 the other XP.
The workgroups are the same and I have set up file sharing on both machines.
The win 7 machine can see the Xp machine and its shared folders but although on the Xp machine I can see the win 7 machine icon I cannot access it. I get the message 'you do not have permission to access, contact your administrator'. As I have said file sharing is enable in win 7 so how can I get access. Thanks for any help going
