After reviewing the recent IE9 beta and enjoying the absence of the status bar (the bar at the bottom of the browser window), I found the status bar to be a more noticeable when I returned to my usual Firefox browsing.

I use the status bar mainly to see what site is referenced for an embedded link on mouse-over on a Web-site. In IE9, this is done with a pop-up at the bottom of the browser like so:

In Firefox the link information on mouse-over has traditionally been displayed in the status bar. No longer. This is way cool! The link information is indicated now in the address bar (the awesome bar as we like to call it in Firefox):

It is now best to eliminate the status bar on Firefox. In fact, with 4.0b7pre, I recommend it as the link information no longer displays in the status bar as it used to anyway. Adblock can also be moved to the toolbar and no longer needs to reside on the status bar where I used to house it.

Certainly, your mileage may vary but, if you're running a Firefox beta, give it a try. I think you'll find it pretty cool too! :)

Oh! I forgot to mention the really cool progress bar that is at the bottom of the address (awesome) bar:

Yet another reason the status bar is no longer needed.

Sorry about the consecutive posts. I guess, in case ya couldn't tell, I think these new features are neat!
