Firefox 6 ad issue

Hi

I have been running a version of firefox 3 forever, but finally updated yesterday to firefox 6. Anyway, when I select websites after performing a yahoo or google search, many of the sites suddenly change in the address bar as the page is loading and the new site takes me to an ad page. If I can get to the address bar in time and rehit enter when it still says the site I want, it will take me to the site I want. Ex. Wikipedia will take me to wikipedia if I rehit it in the address bar while loading, but otherwise, it usually switches and takes me somewhere totally random.

I keep my computer very clean, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I have also deleted temporary internet files just in case.

I also run an adblock program, but these pages seem to be invincible, since it's acting like I meant to go there.

Please help ... this is very frustrating

wanted to find another example so I typed in fifa into google. i then clicked on fifa.com, which was first website in list, and after fifa.com appeared in address bar for second, it switched to this "http://www.ave99.com/search.php?q=soccer&txn=1410846277-4159.5cd3.4e6261e8.1a76"

ok ... thank you. i've been running advanced system care for years now and hadn't had a problem with malware, so i assumed it took care of that among other categories. i will run search and destroy and adaware. hope it works ... thanks again

That sounds like it is almost certainly malware. Do you have an antivirus solution? If not then use MSE and MalwareBytes

Scan with these and post back if the problem still exists (:

Browser hijack ... I agree with the other posters .. Malware bytes anti-malware should fix it. I would also recommend replacing the default hosts file on your pc with a custom one. Search for "HOSTS" and download it from the result which says "blocking unwanted parasites with a hosts file" .. preventive measure for the future.
