I've recently installed Firefox and am happy with it. However, it won't allow me to open Windows Explorer, the wait circle goes round and round and says restart or close, windows then searches for a solution and then WE opens. I have tried running FF in compatability mode which made no difference.

There is very little if anything on the net about this and even less a solution. I really like FF and don't want to return to Chrome.

What is the solution that Windows is applying in the background that enables FE to work? It searches for a solution, all the icons disappear and reappear and then I can open WE.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Update: I have turned off accelerated hardware on FF and see how this goes.

Does turning off hardware acceleration work?

In the past (like a very long time ago) I've had NOTHING but issues with that option. So I always turned it off. Pale Moon has it and I think Chrome. Just recently I turned it back on to see if it would work better now with modern hardware and whatnot.

Your Event Viewer might shed a clue. If you still have issues run these batch files. It'll dump the last 100 Event Viewer entries. Zip those and upload the Zip file.

Thank you. It is still happening this morning so switching off accelerated hardware has not made a difference. If I open windows explorer first it opens in a second but if I open FF first, then explorer won't open. Windows finds a solution to the problem and then it all works ok. I have had a look in event viewer and found the attached information. I could also run checkdisk and see if that fixes it.

After running checkdisc and scannow, problem still remains. Have gone back to Chrome sadly, at least it works without crashing windows explorer.
