Firefox Memory Starts with 200,000K, goes up 500,000K

firefox.exe starts with (one tab is opened at start) closely to 200,000K and goes up to 500,000K by time.
Is this normal?
I open several tabs and then it goes up to 500,000K by time.
The thing is mostly when it freezes, it is freezing the whole computer.
If I am lucky, I am able to kill the process from task manager; but as I said, mostly the computer freezes and I am not able to get to task manager.
Is this firefox behavior normal?

What version of Firefox are you using?

Did you try it without any addons/extensions?

Latest stable I suppose. Auto-update. 14.0.1

I am using firefox for the add-ons and extensions.
Without them it is useless for me (I mean it is not different from other browsers).
But, no; I didn't try it without extensions or add-ons.

I would suggest you to check how it works with addons & extensions disabled.

I definitely agree.
Disable/remove or whatever all add-ons and extensions.
REBOOT!

Is the problem gone?

Reenabling/reinstalling addons and extensions is a piece of cake. I've done the same more than once due to making a 100% clean install.

This is the first test that needs to be performed.

I also have tor browser installed, again with one tab opening at start; and it is using over 150,000K memory (even without usage, just one tab open; that is it; process name is tbb-firefox; Tor Browser does not have any add-ons and 3 extensions only by default.
I will still check it without add-ons and extensions so that I can see if it still starts with nearly 200,000K.

I wrote that to give an example of saying that it starts nearly with 200,000K also. I am talking about regular Firefox.
I have problems with regular Firefox. Tor Browser is just installed.
Tor Browser is portable, no installation, running from a folder in a data partition.

My advice remains the same.

Uninstall the TOR browser.

REBOOT.

Problem gone?

If not, leave TOR browser uninstalled while correcting your system.

Tor is just running from a folder. So, only thing I can do is deleting that folder or not running the program.
It is not installed, so it can't be uninstalled [Portable] (I can delete the folder).

Without Tor and without the add-ons and extensions, it is around 100,000K, which is better of course.

I didn't know tor was causing problems on a computer or with firefox.

If it's any comfort, I run a squeaky clean system and my firefox, which I admit is loaded, is presently using about 300K. Might be less if I exit, run ccleaner and start back up again. I just haven't worried about it.

It may be flash maybe. Something I am seeing it using over 100,000K. Especially, when it makes firefox and/or the computer freeze. Less than 5 tabs, it is around 300,000K; but over 5, it tends to go up to 500,000K.

I think so too. Since the last Flash update FF has been freezing quite often.

If it means anything in this thread, I installed FF last night. With only the program installed, no add ons and 1 tab open it runs 50, 000. That is the bare install.
