Hi

Just uninstalled a pirated Norton 360 from my girlfriend's computer (Installed by an ex), then after restarting the laptop I couldn't connect to the internet. Ran diagnostics and turned up sayin firewall settings are blocking incoming connections. Switched off firewall restarted laptop stll having the same message. Allowed all Internet browsers incoming and outgoing connections. Things is though I can still update Windows itself.

Laptop is a Comaq Cq5x model with a Intel Celeron @2.2 Ghz, 3GB RAM,250 GB hard drive and Windows 7 premium.

Need help please.

Try the norton removal tool:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

Then after that is done restart and let us know what happens. I can then look into the likely possibility of there being malware on the machine.

Which firewall did you turn off? Leave windows firewall on.

Its hilarious someone would install a pirated copy of antivirus software when there is so much better free alternatives out there. And the fact its pirated so it most likely is either a threat itself or does not work.

Keep up the good work. I will be hanging around, let us know what happens.

Any chance the OS is pirated?

With that much infection, it might be best to backup there data and do a clean install. I would not trust that computer for shopping, banking or anything else. I also advise you have them reset there passwords to all critical web sites on a different known clean pc, or mobile device.

Malwarebytes had an issue over the last couple days where they had a bad update that detected system files. See here:

Check your quarantine and make sure the threats are actual threats.
