This has been driving me nuts since i've had 7, but i really don't want to have to install some program to eliminate it. i really don't think i should have to. Every time I have a folder open, when i open another one it opens tight on top of the first one, they always are the same size which i don't want either. In other versions of windows i was always able to get each particular folder to open where i want on the desktop and any size i want by simply putting stretching it to the size i want and putting it where i want then closing it. It would open there every time thereafter even after restarting.

Don't bother telling me about the folder view thing or holding cntrl while closing the window (can't recall if it was cntrl, but tried it long ago and no go) I know all about those but they do does on my W7 64. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure whether this is one of the Don't Tell Me things. What I do is tick on the very top and drag down. I will get smaller and you can change it's size and placement. Open another one and do the same thing. When you minimize and then bring back they will come back the same size and location. If you have picked one you want to bring back to full size tick the top and drag to top of monitor and it will go full again. You can pile open programs all over if you choose to. If you choose to you can have lots open at one time and just pick the one you want full.

No, what i'm talking about is this...open a folder. Size it how you want and place it anywhere on the desktop you want. Now close it. If you open that same folder OR any other folder it will be in the same place and size you last had it. EVERY folder will. So any time you open a folder then open a second one, it opens right on top of the last folder. In XP and other versions i could set it so that i could open folder A, size it and place it how i want, then do the same for folder B, but size it differently and place it in a different place on the desktop. Now every time i open folder A it always comes up how i last sized and placed it, and B opens how i last sized and placed it, even tho i sized and placed them differently.

I think I understand what you want now because my computer does what you are trying to yours to do. First do you have any make my computer pretty programs? They can cause all kinds of funny things to happen.
You could run this. sfc /scannow using cmd/prompt/admin. It's Windows 7 way of checking and repairing it System Files. If it finds a problem run it two more times and boot after each.

It's not an issue with some W7 computers, they all do it. So it's not a issue due to an app or configuration i'm using. It's just the way they made W7. If you google it there are huge threads on it but no one so far seems to have found a fix aside from adding some app that does it. But most of the threads i found at various forums are not up to date, so i'm hoping something has been found by now. likely not, but i gotta try.
