Formatting woes....

I'm writing this in a panic. :banghead:
I just did something I know I shouldn’t have.
Besides a couple of feet of miserable freezing snow outside and discontent with something on the computer....
What i did was a format of everything after trying to "upgrade" from Vista to 7.
It took too much space on my drive and I wanted to go back to ground floor.
So I purchased the full Windows 7 premium disk thinking i could format the drive from there.... but I couldnt find it and I just went nuts and went into “command prompt” and did a reformat on both the c: and d: drives. (instead of following a systematic approach and clean it right)
So now I have 75 gigs free on c: and 2 gig free on d.
And I DON’T have a “BOOTMGR”, or OS or ANYTHING on the drives.

If you can offer any suggestions, help, tips on how I should go about getting the basic files back on this basic 80 gig hard drive 32x it would be most appreciated.
I wish I could even send you some snow if you’d like….
I don’t know where it is…. But I’m sure it’s warmer then herreeeee…

Hi,

If you install Windows 7, you get the option to format the disk there during installation. Is this an upgrade Windows 7, or a full Windows 7?

Concerning your C: and D: issues - is this two partitions on one disk, or a partition on two separate disks?

I discovered how.... AND DID load everything successfully!!
And yes this is a FULL LOAD.....

But something still bothers me and maybe I’m going to have to live with it now….
This computer was originally made with ONE 80 gig drive….
Now…. After WINDOWS 7 loading and then going into PROPERTIES I see the used space is roughly 7 gig loaded and only 67 gig free for everything
Which makes the capacity of the entire drive at 74.5 G. Hmmmm…..
Before I was loaded this OS, I had two partitions…. C: & the RECOVERY Drive.
Something makes me think the recovery is still there and in hiding.
ANYWAY….
Now that I know HOW AND CAN load 7 under any condition, I was wondering…. Is there something I could use to SEE if I’m utilizing the FULL capacity of the drive and make it so? :sarc:
You know how it is…. Before you go thru allll the trouble of loading everything….. you’d like to know…. DID I DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME?... because I want to take advantage of every damn byte on the drive.

If you formated the drive as you indicated your recovery partition is gone and if you want to see for sure, go to control panel/admin tools/ computer mgmt / disk mgmt and that will show a picture of your hdd's. As for the size of a hdd 74 gb is right for an 80 gb. There are many threads concerning this subject, simple way to remember is hdd manufacters use 1000mb's as 1gb computer spec's 1024 mb as 1gb so the hdd manufacterers actually cheat us out of 6 to 8gb on every hdd and more the bigger the drive. Hope this helps you understand.
